PAF team wins first ever ice hockey match in Pakistan

Pakistan Air Force team has clinched first ever ice hockey match of the country defeating GB Scouts in Naltar on Saturday.

Players from both the sides showed some extraordinary skills but no team could score a goal within stipulated time. Therefore, the fate of the match was decided on the penalty shoot out, where Shahsyar, from team Pakistan Air Force scored the only goal of the match leading to the victory of Pakistan Air Force.

The history of ice hockey in Gilgit Baltistan region can be related to a local game “Ghatal”, which is also played with two sticks and a ball. To continue the legacy of this traditional game, ice hockey has been introduced in the region.

To get back on the topic of the IIHF World Junior tournament...

Another solid win by our guys tonight though I thought the Czech team was quite good and the shots were much closer with Canada outshooting them 30-24.

It was a good night for DiPietro watch.

Michael looks like he wants the starting goaltender's job the most of the 2 of them, so far. He had another good night.

Funny when you look at the stats because his GAA is .50 right now. I'm not sure if they will go with him tomorrow against Russia or Scott.

If they do go with him it will signify they've made up their mind on who's # 1, I think.

I want to see him in net when we play the US. Purely selfish reasons. 3 Canuck draft would be playing.

This looks like it would have been a fun game to watch. USA vs Sweden. They played it over on the Island last night. In Victoria.

Montreal must be happy with their 2017 draft pick, Ryan Poehling, today.

And here's a good link for the tournament scores.

I think it will be very likely that Canada and the US team will meet in the playoff part of the tournament and yes, that will be interesting for Canuck fans to watch 3 draft picks in action.

Looking forward to Canada vs Russia tomorrow. The Russians played a great game against the Swiss tonight coming back from a big deficit to win by 3 points. They will give out kids a good game.

Russia ties it 1-1 on the PP at 5:21

Mowich @ Mon Dec 31, 2018 7:20 pm

So much for Ferraro's prediction that there would be 'lots of goals' eh, Hyack. Our kids have to stay out of the box. Both goalies are really getting a work out.

Hyack @ Mon Dec 31, 2018 7:43 pm

Both teams have managed to amass four 2 minute minor penalties, two of which were offsetting. Canada has also managed to receive one 10 minute misconduct penalty to Frost along with his minor penalty for checking from behind in which the Russians scored to tie the game 1-1. It appears team Canada has manged quite well to stay out of the penalty box tonight.

Exciting game so far! I can easily see this going to OT...the battle for 1st place in Group A at stake!
