Russia takes the lead 2-1 at the 11 minute mark of the 3rd period.....

GO CANADA!!

Hyack @ Mon Dec 31, 2018 8:30 pm

Damn, Russia wins it 2-1 knocking Canada down to the #2 position in Group A.

Mowich @ Mon Dec 31, 2018 8:33 pm

Congrats to the Russian kids for the win. I thought the 2nd P our best, Hyack. They didn't look sharp at all in the 3rd. In the first they took too many penalties. The Russian goalie was good but you'd think they could have found a way to get at least the tieing goal by him. Ah well............off to the quarterfinals.

Strutz @ Mon Dec 31, 2018 9:03 pm

Damn! So close too...

Well we shall see who wins between US and Finland to see who we will play in the quarter finals.

Each goaltender faced 31 shots in the Goaltender's duel. The Russians won the game in the third when the Russians had 13 SOG to Canada's 8. Russia also outshot Canada 14 to 10 in the first.

But yeah the Russian goaltender had a great second period.

This one happening right now with Finland is win or go home isn't it? (Short trip  )

0-0 in the first, right now.

N_Fiddledog @ Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:00 pm

Well...

That sucked.

Canada ahead 1-0 until the last 40 seconds. Finland gets a lucky rebound and we're going into overtime.

N_Fiddledog @ Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:18 pm

Overtime: Cody Glass passes over to somebody - I missed who, but he had a wide open net. He slaps at it and his stick explodes.

The Finns snap up the puck and zip down the ice where Vancouver Canuck draft pick Toni Utunen scores on Vancouver Canucks draft pick, Canadian goaltender, Michael DiPietro.

That's it for Team Canada then. Our tournament's over. That's what happen when you play the World Juniors in the home of Canuck luck, I guess.

Now you see why we have riots here.

N_Fiddledog @ Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:22 pm

Oh well...Go Team USA!

Strutz @ Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:27 pm

:(

OMG... so close to winning it in regulation time.

Lost opp on that penalty shot (damn it, I wish there had just been a penalty called)

Then the OT...

:(

Nah

Go Switzerland!

They took out Sweden today and will be regarded as the underdogs and besides... their colours are just right

N_Fiddledog @ Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:34 pm

USA has 2 Canuck's draft choices, Strutzy.

Oh I know that! I'm sure once they are with the Canucks they'll be great, just like Boeser has been.

When my team is out I tend to cheer for the team deemed unlikely. The Swiss team placed 4th in Group A and took out the Swedes who placed 1st in Group B. Quite impressive. Besides, the Swiss have improved their development over the years and seem to be ready to be one of the teams to beat at this level.

N_Fiddledog @ Sat Jan 05, 2019 2:08 am

Team USA plays for gold, Saturday at 5 PST.

Mowich @ Sat Jan 05, 2019 3:38 pm

After a passive first P save for a single goal by the Russians, the 2nd P has proven to be more exciting as the Swiss came alive and have two goals to the Russians 3. Pulling for the Swiss.
