Currently, simply being born in Canada & The United States is enough to grant you citizenship.

Most countries ban birthright citizenship because of security threats and because of unbearable costs which take invaluable resources and burden federal, provincial and local budgets and taxpayers.

Now for just about $10,000 to $15,000 a Chinese or East Indian parent can ensure the “Canadian Citizenship” for her offspring.

Where do you stand on Birthright Citizenship in Canada?

The Chinese/Taiwanese are infamous for hopping planes to Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand shortly before due dates. One of my neighbours can't get a visa to the States for a few years because she delivered all 3 of her sons that way.

All depends on the country, You know, all of those countries don't have to allow those folks into respective places. It's the freedom to not allow people into the country. The point is, these countries are not producing babies because somebody wants to be a business women or a male abortionist, it equals nobody wanting babies. Screw babies, they hold those people back. Thus we get immigration to fill the void.

Who is to blame? Females wanting independence, more money for themselves, bastard people killing fetuses or lax and piss poor immigration polices of the country. You decide.

Before female members jump on me, who is is it that procreates in society? Pro choice? Or pro life....

You can blame the government, "hey, come here, its Canada where you don't have to speak english or french, answer a few questions that most Canadians don't know themselves and here's your card. Take jobs that most Canadians cream themselves over and congrats.

Many of them take jobs that Canadians refuse to do.

Tman1 @ Thu Dec 06, 2007 3:37 am

There are also Canadians who do those jobs (whatever they may be) anyways..point?

ShepherdsDog @ Thu Dec 06, 2007 3:49 am

that was the point. There are jobs(we all know about them, so it's not a whatever they may be matter) that are considered too menial by many Canadians, and these immigrants are necessary to fill these positions. Conversely, there is also a shortage of skilled labour that is not being filled by the domestic supply. That's why Canadian companies are hiring drywallers, butchers, plumbers, painters, stone masons and iron workers from Europe and Latin America.

Sorry what? What jobs are you talking about exactly are menial to you or other Canadians? Janitorial positions? Garbage disposal? There are Canadians who take those jobs anyways...perhaps 7/11? Damn.

Europe and latin American? Take another look at the immigration quota. Most come from Asia, India and Middle East. 20% of people in Canada are not Canadians, cannot speak english or french and yet our government let these people in....wow.

I'm born and bred in Canada and I am a Canadian citizen without having to swear crap to a fake Queen of this country that immigrants seem to have to do, that is my right as a Canadian. Thanks. You denying people born in the country their rights?

ShepherdsDog @ Thu Dec 06, 2007 4:40 am

If they were so desireable, then why are they so hard to fill? The immigrants fill these positions because they aren't filled with a sense of hubris. Everyone has some little anecdote about the immigrant/refugee that starts off at the bottom and ends up with his/her own business. many employers also find that turn over rates, showing up late for work and being a problem at the workplace don't seem to exist among the new arrivals.

Who says they are hard to fill? You? Not taking that as a grain of truth. It is a crap job and somebody has to do it. Be it Canadian born or immigrant hardly matters.

IMO you should have to be in Canada for 5 years before you're kids can be Canadian. Anchor babies should have no birth rights @ 6 weeks.

I wondered about that myself. I wonder why my kids will be Canadian automatically when they turn 18, if they have lived in Canada for 5 years.

Why not make it a choice?
