Race based hiring
Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:
I don;t know why this is such an issue...
There are plenty of jobs for anyone who wants to work.
Race based hiring has been going on for 200 years.
It is too bad when good people try to include all creeds of people inthe workplace, they are criticized by the same people who complain about paying for Native people's welfare.
If more Native people get a job because of prograns to hire, train and retain Native people, then less Natives will be on welfare.
Unfortunately that also means the bigots have less to complain about, because more Indians will be working and paying taxes, and their children will have positive roll models to follow into the workplace.
But for the bigots, that doesn;t work too well, because then their children will have no one to feel superior to.
Like I said, it's just an issue when it happens to you. I ain't complainin'. I'm a big boy--I can take care of myself, but it still sucks when someone says "you can't do this, you're the wrong colour."

An unconditional compensation (called welfare) is due to any people that have lost their option to return to their traditional way of life.
IS DUE????? I don't think so. Explain to me why I should work to support someone too lazy to get off their ass to get an education and work themselves. How do you suppose
the first nations people have lost the option to return to their traditional way of life? No one is preventing them from living in a tent , fishing and hunting, growing a garden for food, making clothing from skins. THAT is the traditional way let us not forget. The Indians we speak of here. Did not live in homes, mass market in the fishing industry, shop for food or clothing, go to university, drive cars, own computers and have an internet hook up to whine about how their "tradional" way of living has been taken away from them.
Traditional natives' way of life required vast natural territories. Because European settlers have misappropriated the New World, they owe to natives something. This compensation has to equalize everyone's opportunities to pursue their own conceptions of the good life. Work is meaningful only as a positive right to this pursuit.

They owe do they? Well thats going to be rather hard to collect on because they are all dead. However you did hit it right on the head in one aspect. THEY OWE. I don't owe a damn thing. I was born in this country. I am as native a Canadian as any living Indian/First Nations/ PC name of the day, born in this Country is. That is not bigotry or racism just simple fact.

If you are talking in a reasonable time frame perhaps. The time frame we are speaking of here is ludicrous.

"We were at this land way before you, so just be happy with, that you are here."..........
dont you think its time to give up this crap? you guys have benefitted more than lost in this Canadian deal...the canadian tax payer.. the gift that keeps on giving...
I am really curios, tell me, what do you think we the indians brought to the table? what do you ride on? walk on? Gold, silver, gravel, dirt, all came from this land that we brought to the table. you guys came from a boat, ok? There was more signatorys on the treatys than there is indian signatorys, its so easy to go alziemers, "duh, what signatorys?" why sign? when you are not going honor, ur signature? You guys are the ones that brought the signing honor system, indians never had that, just a handshakes. That was all that was needed. people were good to thier word, something you will never have.
the things I walk on drive on were built by the evolution of industry and progression through time.. all made by the white man as you call them.. if it wasnt the white europeans who came here and developed the country it would have been someone else.. do you think that your people would have developed Canada to the current status of one of the most envied country to live it the world? doubt it.. we came from a boat because it was the mode of transortation of the era.. and for the time period the best built ships... which by the way would out do a canoe any time.. the industrial knowhow of the whiteman allowed for the discovery and mining of the natural resources.. and so on and so on.. so I ask you where would you be if the french and english didnt come... probably living like the lost tribe in Brasil... so i think its time to put an end to the poor me syndrome..get an education, get a job and become active participants in Canadian Society.. you have been recognized as a nation and rightly so,, as Quebec has and its people are contributing....time to move forward over 400 yrs..
Good dodge, do you always dodge? all your life? You didnt come remotely close to what I asked you. Developed the Land, who knows? maybe we coulda been like Africa. Do you want me to show you the agreements? I might add, thier was more white signatories than thier is indian signatories. Guess who is the ones that are crying most right now? We didnt need a ship, for what? We dont go to other places, and we werent the ones that got rejected from our homesoils. We managed to keep this land clean for 20,000 years, you whites been here for 400 years already the whole known PLANET is in DANGER.

If misappropriation had not happened in the New World, yes we can imagine that Natives would have adopted the European industrial inventions at a more sustainable pace.

BC...Sure the natives were around here for 20,000 years...love what they did with the place! Sure don't see very many ancient ruins or pyramids in Saskatchewan..Or Canada for that matter. I am really starting to believe that the natives of Central America were never related to the First Nations here as they were far more advanced.

This is the whole problem right here. You believe our culture and history has no value, that advancements cause you to be better for some reason.
That narrow sighted, bigoted view has no place in society today. Our people lived on this land for thousands of years. We were tied to the land and looked after it. We had life expectancies longer then they are today.
We had no debts, mortgages, alcoholism, drug addiction...our jobs required us to do many verities of things to survive, not just one menial task all day like answer phones, assembly line work...
Imagine the amount of strength and integrity every member of our communities would need to have to survive as we did, there is no way we could have people sitting on their asses collecting welfare, no way we could survive if we didn’t have the utmost in terms of work ethic and ingenuity.
When I look out my window ant the huge pile of garbage Regina has collected at its dump I wonder how long it will take until our society with all its advancements and technology will survive. How long will it take people to realize they are slaves to the system, forced to work every day to pay for their houses and SUV's and all the great things they think their lives need, but can't save the money to buy - except to borrow.
I like what you've done with the place since you and your kind brought over your dirty diseases and your sense of entitlement.

The biggest human clash we will ever be able to imagine is the one between peoples used to live in very densely populated geographic areas (Europeans) meeting peoples used to live in very sparsely populated areas (Amerindians).

Well let us, "white & male" face the facts that the past does matter. Past wrongs have set up a system that up to this generation has given us role models and opportunities others have not had. So yes it sucks NOW.
On TV I watch: young girls are tougher, stronger and smarter than boys (this will really help boys with sexual confusion issues).
Every TV station (in Canada) had some black anchor news guy now they have all switched to some brown exotic (can not tell race) women anchor/news/weather whatever.
This is just politics at its worst after all in Sask there are few people of other cultures (not counting Native Americans who by right have their own Nation)just us sappy white Poles/Ukraine/and lost Scotsmen.
Just grin and bare it for now. The pendulum political correctness will swing and only God knows what or whom the next colour of public opinion will be.
