Top court to rule if witness can wear niqab in court
Jughead Jughead:
I still say that wearing a hat indoors including restaurants is perfectly fine. I see it all the time, whether it be a yarmulke or a baseball cap. Whether it's religious in nature or simply a fashion statement, nothing wrong with wearing one. I've eaten at upscale places like Red Lobster, and The Outback with no issues regarding my cap. Many of these rapper kids wear baseball caps all the time indoors. Nothing worng with that. Same with the yarmulke.
I am being serious when I say that this is the first time I hear any issues with wearing a hat indoors.
Well, besides being a teachable moment, this is a 'self-awareness' moment. Sometimes it is a shock to people that their behaviour can be deemed as socially detrimental without them really meaning it to be taken that way.
I've always felt the same way about hats but instead of seeing it as rude or boorish I see it as a lack of social sophistication. It is a visual signal of education, social status, and dare I say it, class.
I wouldn't stress it too much, it falls into the category of talking with food in your mouth. But that said, you will find that more socially adept people will steer clear of you. See it as the interpersonal equivalent of 'managing up' or failing to.
If someone asked me to remove my hat, I'd tell 'em to fuck off, personally. I've never even heard of this hat rule. OK, if it's some fancy joint (and, obviously, a military mess hall), sure, but at Micky D's and places like that all the staff are wearing hats. Who cares?
I'm not advocating telling people to remove their hats indoors, I'm just suggesting that their lack of grace will impact on how they are perceived by those of us who have manners.
Now take yer fuckin' hat off wanker!
Merry Christmas Zip!

Lemmy why is a head covering so wrong while eating?
A comment like that makes me wonder if you ever really were in the Army as you have claimed - I got yelled at the one (and only) time I forgot to remove my beret in the mess hall.

Trivia question: What's one of two of the occasions where a soldier can wear his hat upon entering a church?
Answer: When he's carrying a casket or riding in it.
I thought he also could if he was getting married in full dress uniform, but that's a WAG (wild-assed guess) on my part.

Nope, still comes off while IN the church.
On carrying a casket, I think the Yanks wear them but we Commonwealth types don't. There's a whole procedure for 'hats off' prior to carrying the casket. In or outdoors.

Places like McDicks, and other chain restaurants don't apply. Although chain restaurants like Baton Rouge is mid-class and that was the type of restaurant I worked in where we had a no hat policy. Where refusing to remove your hat would of resulted in no food or drinks for you.

I like our custom that allows the pall bearers to wear their Class A hats. It just looks very respectful and professional to me.

When did it become acceptable to wear a hat when eating anywhere?
It may not be acceptable, but it certainly is commonplace...at least in more commonplace eating establishments.

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I wouldn't remove my hat, particularly if others are also wearing one. I've been to Las Vegas countless times, and have dined at many nice restaurants inside the casinos, and never once was I ever asked to remove my cap. Mind you, there were other patrons who were also wearing caps. Same goes for the gambling tables, no one ever asked me to remove my cap while gambling, and yes the free drinks kept coming, hat on and all.
