4/28/2017: North Korea missile test fails
peck420 peck420:
If this goes down, it is going to be a shit storm for the whole peninsula.
Be interesting if China invades the DPRK first. Don't forget they've got 150,000 troops on the DPRK border the past few weeks and those troops are at combat readiness. They ain't there for window dressing.
Last time Chinese troops were massed along the Yalu River, things didn't go so well when they crossed.
Thanos Thanos:
Maybe. But this time there's a system of defenses between the US and the South that wasn't there in 1950. There won't be a repeat of the mass invasion that happened which kicked off that war.
And nobody, that I have seen or read, is even thinking that the North would retaliate with an invasion.

Hopefully that is the plan, or at least they are ready to move in and 'support' whomever replaces Lil Kim. I just fear that they are only there to keep the mess on the peninsula.

China could rush in, snd demilitarize the Norks, maybe even guarantee the security of the new regime. They wouldn't go over the border - nothing to gain. Face to gain fixing the problem with Yanks left on the sidelines.
S Korea, nothing to lose. Volatile enemy on the border gone, China open to trading w special status, maybe even to a future united Korea if the North stays mainly demilitarized. China doesn't want to annex a land of starving basket cases, S Korea doesn't really want to either. Spending the next 50 years fixing it up to feed itself would give everyone something constructive to do and money to be made.
USA loses a little face but get the result it wants and suffers no costs or casualties.

Read several articles that China's main concern, next to not getting hit by accident by an off-target missile, is not getting over-run by Northern refugees if things really broke out into hostility. As for the actual conditions inside the North they could care less.
Plenty of North Koreans try and cross the Chinese border as economic refugees.

South Korea has a lot to lose. In the short term, an artillery or rocket barrage from the north would cause an untold number of casualties and billions upon billions of economic damage to one of the strongest economies in Asia. The long term consequences are just as unappealing. Let's say the regime in the north crumbles or is forcibly removed either by the US or china. What next? Who's going to help put that country back together and then drag it from the early 20th century into the 21st? And what of the people. I'd bet a lot would try to go south rather than north into china and that would be an incredible burden on South Korea.
I saw a thing on Vice a while back about some of the people who've managed to escape that country and the difficulties they have integrating into South Korean life. They've come from a backward country to one of the most technologically advanced in the world. They have no real education or marketable skills. Their dialect instantly gives them away as a northerner, and the stigma that goes with it. It's hard. Most men end up in menial jobs or homeless. Women end up the same or in whorehouses. And this is for about 25,000 people who have escaped over the years. NK has a population of 25m.
The world is having a serious problem with refugees from the Middle East and North Africa. Do we really want to incur another refugee crises in SE Asia?

North Korea 'tests ballistic missile' amid reports Pyongyang stating war 'imminent'
$1:
North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile in the early hours of Saturday morning, reports in South Korea said, amid rising military tensions with the US.
The missile, launched from a region north of the capital, Pyongyang, appeared to have blown up a few seconds into flight, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said.

China is going to purge the Kim's.

Waltzing in to mention that obliterating the north is kinda really fucked up and i'd rather our proud traditions not include murdering koreans thanks ❤
What's the alternative, letting them murder their neighbours, and possibly us?
peck420 peck420:
Thanos Thanos:
Pretty sure the artillery emplacements have been thoroughly mapped over the decades. With the cave-busters the US has now they probably won't last more than a few hours before they're nailed too.
Which will be a few hours too late for a couple million South Koreans.
$1:
Not cheering for this. Just pointing out that the technological advantage the US has now is so overwhelming that the Nork ability to last out more than a few days is laughable.
The 'Norks' have better technology than the Taliban and ISIS did when military action began. Both of those groups are still 'in the fight'. If the North Koreans hold a fraction of the time that either of those groups did, there won't be much South Korea left to defend.
Unfortunately, the technology that allows the North Koreans to inflict that level of damage is almost 100 years old now.
^This.
If the nutjobs in North Korea really feel threatened or do get a cruise missile sandwich from Cheeto, I could see them firing off every single missile, rocket, and artillery shell they have, laced with Sarin, Mustard gas, smallpox, nukes and whatever other nasty WMD they have.
And with WMDs, you only need a one or two - out of thousands - to get through to cause some serious casualties.
That's the difference between Saddam/Qaddafi et al and Kim Jon Fat Ass - I have no doubt that they will use WMDs as he seems truly insane, whereas the others were just monsters trying to survive.

Why not export all the migrant to the DPRK? It would take the stress f the EU, and the migrants can effect their hermit kingdomt the same way they extend France, England, et all. That would fix the little tyke ass.
