France 'Yellow Vest' tax revolt is not ending
BartSimpson BartSimpson:
DrCaleb DrCaleb:
We should all be protesting our governments for the stagnant wage and rising tax burden over the last 30 years.
$1:
You're coming out against carbon taxes?

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Nope. Pollution should not be free, we should have to pay for the resources we use. Including clean air and water. We'll end up paying to clean it up in the long run, might as well pay up front.
Which is it then? Because Macron's idiotic tax was going to 'save the world' from global warming by taxing the holy fuck out of petrol and heating fuel.
Do you oppose this idea or support it?
Support. I figured that would be clear by now.

Taxes are one of the few tools Governments have to control the behavior of the population. Tax the things you want to see a reduction in, such as tobacco. The easy way to not pay the tax is to not use taxed item.
It the things we have no choice to use, like income and property, that have been taxed into oblivion while the average household has been slipping in purchasing power.
Here's a solution removes the need for a carbon tax.

"The easy way to not pay the tax is to not use taxed item."
Tell that to the rural people who have no choice but to use their truck or car to get around and do business.
Do you think Canadians would simply go along with a CDN $.35 per liter increase in fuel prices?

I am one of those people. It's why I bought a smaller car, and why I would buy an EV if I could. It's also why I used to drive to the edge of the city, and take transit the rest of the way to work.
Alberta is using the carbon tax it collects to pay for LRT and transit upgrades in it's major cities. Exactly what the carbon tax should be used for. The small town I grew up in now even has a bus route, and connects to Edmonton's transit system.
There still is no park and ride facility, but it's a start.

I'd riot (from my bed, as established)... and I don't drive.

Gas was 35 cents more 10 years ago. There was no rioting then.

I noticed gas has dropped From more than $1.20 in November, to $0.83 at some places yesterday.
At this rate, it will be free by spring.

Gas in my area right now is floating around 1.10. I remember it being over 1.4. Where was the outrage?
Macron is up for a vote of no confidence tomorrow and on the heels of the fucking shitstain murdering people at a Christmas market I suspect that Macron will be the first French President ousted since DeGaulle.

Really? So in practicing what I preach, I have no concern for the peasants who are starving?
How does that make any sense?

It's kind of the point of argument, to present a logical one.

Because you have no empathy for the rural people who can't use public transit to get to their jobs in the city
because that's not where they work.
It didn't even occur to you.
And what about the farmers who have to use trucks? Or tractors? I doubt they'll be bringing their flocks to market on public transit or rideshare...unless it's Afghanistan.
