I have only one thing to say to you all:
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
[edit - can't forget this]

Just wait a few years.
These geezers are gonna start dying off faster than mosquitos in winter.
they must not realize the fact that Canada is so great because of our differences. I am proud of the fact that in my group of friends, there are hardly any of them with the same ethnic background. we have so much to learn from different cultures, and i just hope that the seperatist see that.
You know, these bastards are openly racist and hatefull. What they have done to Quebec in the last forty years is pathetic. Along with the former/current separatists in the liberal party (don't laugh), they have made anybody who who doesn't fit the idea of a Quebec nationalist an outcast. Think about it, how bad would it be if these modern-day nazis DID separate? Pay off QC's part of the debt, DON'T use the Canadian dollar, and get you're own QUEBEC passport. And fuck-off!
The parti quebecois & bloc quebecois are an albatross around the Canadian neck. The overtly racist bill 101, bill 22 from the seventies, and many lesser known bills, bylaws, and rules that govern Qc have been condemned by the united nations and human rights groups. Why no outcry?English as a mother tongue constitutes over 20% of the Quebec population, but they are treated like second-class citizens. How many of you know that Quebec has re-named all provincial parks as "national" parks. The list goes on and on.
Every time I am in Hull, across the bridge from Ottawa, I do my own little survey: without fail, a good 80% of the drivers pulled over on expressways are Ontario plates. Bad drivers from Ontario? LMAO! You should see the drivers in Quebec. You are taking you're life in you're hands driving over there. Signal lights on cars are a quaint relic from the past, and stop signs & speed limits are just a suggestion.
Believe me, there are a lot of Quebecers who are NOT separatists, who are good Canadians, and who want to live in peace in Canada.
Keep an eye on those separatist bastards though, at times they are quiet, but hate never sleeps! And they HATE anything that isn't like them!
I was in a McDonalds restaurant in downtown Toronto recently, and the menu on the wall was in Chinese, as well as English. In Quebec, that could get Ronald's ass tossed in "la maison de correction" doing some hard time. Ten bucks says Charest won't do a damn thing about that, so don't cheer too loudly for the liberals, they are almost as bad (remember Bourassa?).
I have always been confused why there is a separatist movement. Without stirring up a lot of anger could I get some views on why the seperatist movement is active and what drove them to pursue such drastic measures?
I second Mikes request!
It's difficult to put a finger on one single cause or issue as it is something that escalated over a long period of time. The main thing that comes to my mind however, was all the emotional backlash that resulted from De Gaulle's 1967 'vive le Quebec libre' speech.
I could tell ya what I know Mike, but it would probably come with a definite right-wing slant, not to mention VERY personal negative experience. I've got an hour and-a-half before watching a great hockey game here, and I have two bar-b-que's to start up.
In a nutshell, imagine New Mexico wanting to separate because the state feels it is becomming too Anglo, its losing its Spanish heritage and traditions, and wants to go it alone. A very vocal minority wants to separate (mostly older, rich elitists, and young dreamers). By a campaign of mis- information brilliantly phased in over forty years, where the population is spoon-fed how different and great their traditions are in comparison to "the rest" of the country, they have fostered a superiority complex in a segment of the population. Add several generations of gutless federal administrations (no govt. wants to be the one responsible for "breaking up the country"), cater to every wish and whine they have (Quebec is in charge of its own immigration policy, among other things), feed them billions of dollars in federal transfer payments, and basically let the tail wag the dog(our policy on Iraq was severely undermined by appeasing Quebec) and you got yourself a powerful separatist political movement.
America is known as the great "melting pot". American first, old country traditions come after. In Canada, they call it "multiculturism" or a cultural mosaic. Translation: A few special interest groups call the shots for the masses. Imagine this in NM: All of a sudden you can't advertise in English anymore, it has to be in Spanish. Never mind how you spent you're whole life building up a business, with no help from the people who make these laws, never mind that most of your clients are English speaking anyway, and to hell with representation, you are only 20% percent of the population, you are now breaking the law by advertising in anything but Spanish!
Canada became officially bilingual in the late sixties. This means f*ck-all to Joe six pack in 9 provinces, except his cereal box is in French on one side and English on the other in the morning (all food products must be in french & english in Canada). But the clincher is only 24% percent of Canadians claim french as a mother tongue (tail wagging the dog again). 54% of the federal civil service claims french as a mother tongue. Overrepresentation? Maybe just a little. One more stat: The provincial civil service in Quebec has a great track record of hiring english as-a-mother tongue employees: 2%!
One last thing: Anybody think Bill Gates (love him or hate him) can run a company? He couldn't work in Canada's public service, his french isn't up to the standard required. Never mind his record in business, he can't play Canada's favorite (and most expensive) game!
Why do they want to separate? Beats me, sounds like a good deal. Welcome to pseudo-socialism and flawed social policy.
I'm gonna catch hell for this oversimplification, but bring it on!
That was ABSOLUT_SS's speech, if anybody's taking names.Forgot to sign in.
lol, that problably is one of the main reasons...i say the second reason is because of their deep french culture. Even after the english took over quebec, they held on to their heritage, and they still feel, that being sided with the english will destroy their heritage
