Turkey legalizes marriage for 9yo girls and 12yo boys
Bart's post may be inaccurate but this post shows that it wouldn't be a stretch for the assholes ruling Turkey to bring their marriage laws up to date with their warped views of consensual sex ages.
$1:
The decision by the country's constitutional court removes a legal provision that all sexual acts against children under the age of 15 are "sexual abuse".
Children aged 12, 13 and 14 will no longer receive automatic protection as a minor, according to the ruling, but will be expected to offer or decline consent in sexual activity.
Experts say this is a green light for sex with "consenting" minors as young as 12

Yes, and in light of that let's revisit the first two paragraphs previously posted from The Guardian:
Activists and opposition politicians in Turkey have rounded on a law that allows Muslim clerics to conduct civil marriages, describing it as a blow to women’s rights and secularism and part of an ongoing effort to impose religious values on a polarised society.
The law allowing “mufti” marriages was passed by parliament and Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then published in the country’s official gazette on Friday, despite protests by civil society activists and opposition lawmakers. Last month, Erdoğan declared the bill would be passed “whether you like it or not”.

All of this is a massive argument in support of how vital a secular state that isn't ruled by religion actually is in ensuring freedoms and protecting the vulnerable. Separation of church/temple/mosque from state? Go fucking figure, eh?

Gee whiz, who the fuck else does that sound exactly like?
Islamic law says marrying off 9 year old girls is legal according to Turkey's directorate of religious affairs.
So the BBC tells us what this is really about:

Correspondents say that, despite the directorate's assurances, distrust of the body still remains among secular groups.
In recent years Turkey has seen increasing tension between supporters of its secular constitution and those who favour religious conservatism.

Kick them out of NATO.

Kick them out of NATO.
That's coming. Maybe even as soon as this year.

I'd say yes but the second we do that Erdogan and Turkey will move into the "Soviet" ooops, I mean "Russian" sphere of influence which is just what Putin wants.
Without Turkey in NATO we'd lose our toehold on the soft underbelly of Russia along with the 24 military bases that are like a sword poised at the throat of the Russian bear. A sword which has for decades kept them in line and from "expanding" their sphere of influence.
My guess is that it would be easier and one hell of alot more logical to remove Erdogan from NATO than to remove Turkey from NATO.
Turkey and Russia will never be close friends. Too much bad blood between the two countries and unlike us nice people in North America those folks have very long memories and they talk about 500 year old atrocities as if they'd happened last week.
I won't rule out the possibility that they may temporarily share some interests...just like Nazi Germany and the USSR did...but it won't last long before old grudges surface.

Kick out Turkey, bring in the Ukraine. Fully Recognizing the Russians would be pissed.

The legislation raises the age of consent from 14 to 18, and amends the process to require parental and judicial consent for marriage involving 17- and 18-year-olds, CBS New York reports......North Carolina and Alaska also allow 14-year-olds to marry with parental and judicial consent.....Twenty-seven states have no minimum age for marriage in state law, meaning children of any age could technically marry with court approval.

In the places where religion is in power over daily life the first and foremost thing that stands out is the grotesque abuse of women and children. And that applies equally to all religions.
