Here's a perfect example of why increasing speed limits is a dumb idea:

http://globalnews.ca/news/1857809/speed ... day-drive/

A nice sunny day on a clean and clear stretch of divided highway and a couple dumbasses cross the median and nearly kill themselves.

Speed a factor? Of course it was simply because they were driving to fast for road conditions. Would this have happened in July? Likely not. Would photo radar have prevented this maybe, but then again if the posted speed limit is to fast for winter road conditions once again the answer would be, no. So, perhaps a little common sense would go alongway in what constitutes safe driving and the arbitrary issuing of tickets isn't likely to change peoples bad or unsafe driving habits.

If a Gov't is going to use photo radar then don't get pissed off when people start telling other people where the vehicles are located because if saving lives is the motivating reason for using it, that process would actually be of assistance by getting drivers to slow down in bad crash locations. Although, if it's anything like BC was, the vans weren't setup at dangerous crash locations but, in spots that were the most likely to make money for the Gov't which, was a fact noted by the public early on and likely the major reason why we no longer have photo radar.

So, done right, photo radar can be a good tool in preventing accidents but, done wrongly and it becomes just another gov't funded money making scheme, especially when the funds are funneled back to the police Dept's issuing the tickets.

It is possible to accrue 5 or more photo radar tikets in a single day. Of course the driver may not be aware of this for a week or so. Now, do you suppose that the same driver would continue speeding to the point of receiving 5 written tickets in the same day?

Click on the link FOG, the images clearly shoe that the Henday was bare and dry - just like it would be on day in July. Having driven that same stretch myself on the same day, I can verify the road was in perfect driving condition.

You cannot get a speeding ticket if you're not speeding...

BC Motor Vehicle Act

3.03 A number plate must be kept entirely unobstructed and free from dirt or foreign material, so that the numbers and letters on it may be plainly seen and read at all times and so that the numbers and letters may be accurately photographed using a speed monitoring device prescribed under section 83.1 of the Act.

They could make a fortune in North Eastern BC. Working up there this winter has rendered my plate completely indistinguishable. You can't even tell if I have a plate under the layer of mud.

Wrong! BiL was driving with my sis as a passenger-on 127 ave. Got pulled over for doing 60 in a 50. Tried to tell the cop that he was miataken. Cop wouldn't hear it. Court day. BiL tells the judge "The speed limit on that stretch of road is 60. I tried to explain that to the officer". Cop piped up Then you were doing 70 in a 60"! Duh

My point of course was that not too likely that a driver stopped and ticketed by law enforcement would go on to rack up 4 more speeding tickets in the same day

Where at-FSJ or Ft Nelson? All ya need for a truck wash is a big rubber mallet to knock the dried mud of your vehicle.

Flashing signs displaying your speed would be much better to reduce speed than a fine showing up in the mail a week later.
Photo radar is simple a money generating venue and has fuck all to do with safety.

In between the two. And the mallet would only work for a day or so with the freeze-thaw cycle I just worked through.

But I did get a water hauler to wash my truck before heading home at the end of the job. [B-o]

Given that the conversation is about photo radar, it should be obvious that I was talking about photo radar, but let me clarify it.

If you don't speed, you cannot get 5 speeding tickets in one day from photo radar.

If the dog hadn't stopped to shit, he would have caught the rabbit. Let's really define the topic then. The topic is actually about whether photo radar is a deterrent to speeders. My position, and so it would seem also of the majority of posters here is that it isn't. However, a ticket in hand at the time of offence...

raydan @ Wed Mar 04, 2015 5:34 pm

I kinda wonder, since you all think that photo radar is a cash grab and it isn't a deterrent to speeders... why the fuck are you all still speeding? [huh]

Playing the odds. I know where they most often set up, and I know what to look for in other likely seeming areas. Therefore I can speed at will, slowing down for a minute when I see suspicious van, and I'll go years in between tickets.

I guess that all criminals must think the same way.
