The Dark Canuck The Dark Canuck:
Constantinople Constantinople:
If our European ancestors hadn't butchered animals for their skins, we wouldn't be here today.
Animal skins are pretty useless today and I laugh at the people who seek to be like cavemen.
Do you have to break everything down to "If it wasn't for X doing X then we wouldn't be here?" I think most of us are tired of hearing it.
Hmmm, yeah, that's really
tiresome to read that.

Yeah, and rational explanations for the "evil" things humans do is always a pain.
Growing crops can be just as cruel, and it would be, if we tried to produce the amount of soy required to maintain our protein-rich diets without meat products. Say goodbye to the bugs, birds, and anything else which would rather not have their home turned into a pesticide-laden virtual parking lot.
The simple fact is that there are too many people to feed on the earth. Your organic vegetarian lifestyle is fine for you, but it wouldn't work on a large scale.

It dosnt have to. All I want is for the average person to be aware of where and how their food came from.
Cool fact, if we only ate vegetable products, and consumed the same amount of vegetable products as we did meat, it would take a much smaller surface area to grow veggies than it does to raise cows and chickens for meat.
We can feed more people with a smaller farming area with vegetables.
It takes even more room for meat products.
Just to let everyone know.

That makes sence seeing as animals tend to wander in large fields.

It'd also take enough pesticides and fertilizers to kill everything smaller than a groundhog.

Not really. Pesticides screw the food up. I despise them.
But I suppose it would kill everything in the area the pesticides are being used. Not everywhere on Earth.

You don't need pesticides. a 2 soap to 1 water ratio spray will deal with bugs quite effectively. And whats wrong with organic vegetables? They taste way better than pesticide crap. And hydroponics for that matter....
Soap works on some insects, but not all pests....
All done on a small scale... or at least compared to the unorganic production.
Hydroponics requires greenhouses, and a shitload of CO2, which usually comes from burning sawdust or other combustibles all year long.

In short it likely will never happen. Unless the population drops traumatically. We are overpopulated as it is.
What is done to these animals is wrong. And sadly there is probably no alternative to accepting that it does happen and will continue to happen.
It keeps happening because people don't know how and where breakfast is made. It's lack of information. If everyone knew how they get their bacon I'm sure they'd be less inclined to eat bacon. However, this costs money to inform them and probably costs even more to be more "humane" to the animals breed to die and be devoured.
