I'm sorry.
ROTFL

So am I! And I live here!
And there's Tricks, the wannabe Albertan, ROTFL

Wanna switch places? :P I'm sure you'd love this Totalitarian Fascist Nazi Dictatorship Redneck Hick Wannabe-Cowboy Wish-It-Was-Calgary town.
I would, but then I would feel dirty knowing you had been there at one time.

The west end of Toronto (Etobicoke) has some of the nicest neighbourhoods. i grew up here... We have great schools, great shopping, great dining and its close enough to downtown but far enough away so that you do not feel too close to everyone.

However, $1000 is not going to cut it out here. Rent alone will start at about that much (maybe).

Wow! I had no idea that Toronto was so bad! 8O

I don't know why but I had pictured it being something like Halifax or Victoria without the nice view.

I've been to Montreal on business and it was okay....don't tell me Toronto is worse?

By Canadian standards it is hard to find a worse city in the country when measured against all negative factors such as crime, pollution, affordability etc. When I fly into the place I can actually smell it for the first half hour.

Well, I guess I'll scratch Toronto from my list of places to see.

On the same side, you may wish to skip visiting Los Angeles.

Toronto is a great city. Lots to see and do. Always worth a visit if you have never been.

I am moving to Toronto at the end of April! :D Is there any good advice about what neighbourhoods to avoid and the good ones to live in? I have to find an apartment or maybe a house to rent and I get a $1,000 allowance from my firm for rent and bills so I have to make it stretch. :D

What is the major intersection closest to where you will be working?

Toronto and area is bigger than Greater London England in terms of area.

As a heads up, $1000 may not cover your rent depending on where you want to live or what lifestyle you choose to live.

My sister worked in downtown Toronto but lived in downtown Hamilton and took the GO Train in for work. Her apartment in Hamilton was twice the size for less money(in a newer building with better security) than the apartment she originally had in Toronto.

I'll be working at 5000 Yonge Street and would like to take a train if there's one safe and near by. I want to thank EVERYONE for the replies!!!! Ace!!!! The firm gives me $1000 as an allowance for rent but I'll add my own money sos I get something that won't make my face like a bulldog licking piss off a nettle everytime I have to look at it.

Where's the best places now to fart about in Toronto?

The area you will be working in is Younge and shepprard, just north of sheppard, it is right next to the canadian forces building (or attached) which is 4900 young. it is one of the best places in the city for night life, many old english style pubs. it is minutes away from two subway lines, the sheppard and young lines. Both have lots of shopping. East on the sheppard line will get you to fairview mall, probably top 3 in the city in terms of size, south on the young line to dundas will get you to dundas square, which is where the eaton centre is, also top 3 malls for size(with yorkdale mall, scarborough town centre, and woodbine centre rounding out the top 5)If you enjoy dancing then you will have to check out the entertainment districtrict (located within an eight square blocks area in the heart of the city. Bordered by York Street and the Financial District on the East, Queen Street on the North, Spadina and the Fashion sector on the west, and the Lakeshore on the south, the area is easily accessible, by all forms of transportation.)

The rent in the area you will be working in is some of the highest in the city, however if you can find anything affordable and close, it is a very desirable neighbourhood.

Yorkville is the absolute best! Also check out Queen Street.

But definitely Yorkville. When I go downtown, I live in Yorkville.

So you're going to take an Albertans advice on visiting Toronto? you might as well ask Ahmadinejad what he thinks of Tel Aviv.

I'd look for somewhere on teh Sheppard subway line which runs East of Yonge St, that'll be very convenient for you
