I'm all for it - too many HOGs riding around with no muffler (or at least it sounds like it)!

Ironic ain't it??? Edmonton brings in a noise bylaw targeting motorcycles, and to date
more than twice as many car drivers have been ticketed for noisy vehicles than bike riders for having noisy bikes!http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=306931#306931

However, I will say this - my sleeping daughter was never woken up by some dummy in a Honda that sounds like a lawnmower...but a loud Harley does it every time.

Just shows that your daughter has taste. She's waking up cause she wants a look at the cool bike

ZING !!!!!
There are so many Harleys around here we don't even notice them anymore. It is the preferred toy and just abut every third guy (or gal) in some of the richer neighbourhoods around here drive them on sunny days.
This is a near-by bike fest and it's generally wall-to-wall Harleys:

Nah, her taste and mine leans towards Japanese crotch rockets...it's the base rumble of stupid Harleys that wake her up.

What's the difference between a vaccuum cleaner and a Harley...the dirtbag is inside the vaccuum cleaner!

commanderkai commanderkai:
you do realize most motorcycle riders aren't doing it because they want attention and be a disturbance.
Could have fooled me, all the hog riders we have here are trying be on top of that list. And one wanker makes its a point to swing by my house close to midnight to rattle everyone's brain.
Mind you most hog riders here are western expats who are fulfilling their childhood dreams which they couldn't back home.
In the end I hate hogs with a passion.

Is that that bullshit noise is a safety measure again? Just an excuse for guys worried about their penis size.
An older cousin used to race bikes on tracks ... (has the pins and plates to prove it, too). He used to have several bikes at once. He had cool British bikes as toys when I was a kid: Norton Commando, Triumphs, a BSA or two and also a string of two-stroke Kawasakis. He has never owned a Harley. He is in his early 60's now and he drives cutting edge, high tech Yamaha. Beautiful, modern bike, its very quiet and it goes like a rocket. No Harley, no how ...
The noise is not a safety measure. If guys really want to increase their noticebility they'd wear a white helmet. Studies show that's about 4 times more effective than loud pipes.
Many kinds of bikes for many kinds of riders. Some guys absolutely are all about "look at me, i have a giant dong, you can tell ny how obnoxious I am". For most of us on cruisers it's an experience. Relaxing with the wind in your face, and yes, a nice rumble from your engine. I personally don't think it needs to be super loud to sound good, but it does have to be audible or the experience just isn't the same.
As for the "cutting edge high tech yamaha"... it's a different experience. I have years of riding spor bikes behind me. My last bike was a Triumph Daytona 955. Fast bike with great handling. A crash that I was lucky to ride away from(if it'd been on the next corner I was looking at a 40 foot drop into a mountain lake!) and a couple kids later... not the experience I'm looking for anymore.
My bike looks awesome and sounds great. I feel cool riding it, at a reasonable speed, and my wife assures me I look hot ridiing it in my leather jacket and sunglasses.
Haters can make any insinuations they want about psychological relationships to my manhood, but it's what I've chosen to spend my time and money on and I've gotten a lot of joy over the years out of it.
Never owned a Harley either, but that's because I don't really like the look or the performance of most of them. I like the v-rod series, but find them to be expensive for the performance and still prefer the smooth lines of a bike like mine.
