So the city of Houston decided to have lots of sprawl without the drainage to go with it.
The whole city sits on a flood plain, but I guess no one thought of that.
It's also a thing to think this is the only time Houston has had floods;
watching the local tv, seems they have floods almost every year.
And yet still no decent drains, still permission for people to build right next
to an FDR New Deal hill, and right next to the main relief spillway.
But it's all the Republicans fault for forcing the people
to elect Democrat mayors.
So this was a once in 500 year flood.
Which means of course the global warming hysterics wil claim we'll have
another one next year.
Like I wrote, I'm sure the State shares the blame in this. Let's not pretend they are blameless just because you prefer their brand of bullshit over the Democrats brand.
And of course, the irony in you saying that they have floods every year, and then discount that they may have one next year.

From the info I've gotten looks like Austin is going to have about 3000 refugees from Houston. At one point my work place was being considered for housing some of them but plans evolved to where it looks like we will only be a storage depot of some sort. Convention center and some other places will be used for housing. They are saying that this will last till at least Dec. Horrible situation with no short term solutions.

Emergency evacuation ordered for communities around the Barker reservoir.
They issue the order at 1:30 in the morning.
They said they would open the sluice at Addicks at 2am, then opened
it at 1 am, didn't tell anyone.
