But doing high kicks deson't just envole in spreading the legs. There's a few other tricks of getting the hight. For one is getting the knee high up (which I can get my knee to my upper chest). Also when you kick, tilt your body down on an angle twords the ground. You would be amazed on how high the kick can go becasue of that.
it does involve spreading, although it's not that necessary in some martial atrs. I agree about the knee but tilting your body too much down is wrong cause this way your centre of gravity is dislocated and you fall an easy prey
