More than half of Canadians favour Liberal-NDP co-operation

I'd say the past election says they didn't.
Had they presented a platform that Canadians could get behind, they wouldn't be in the Opposition right now. Dion's eco platform fell on deaf ears (mostly), and that's why the NDP gained ground. The Libs need to shift back to the centre if they want to govern. I'd vote for Iggy if I thought he could shift it back to where it was before Trudeau became PM, but he hasn't been able to do that.
They can explore a partnership with the NDP, but if they ever merged, they'd forever lose my vote. I simply don't care for too many of the NDP's core policies.
Sure but so far the people saying they won't support this are the people unlikely to vote for them anyway. Its kinda like ridenrain commenting on Lib policy as if anything they did would win his support.
Interestingly while you say they are too far left people like Rev Blair are telling me they see virtually nothing "left" left in the Liberals. Of course he is very unlikely to vote Lib as well.
I specifically did NOT vote Liberal in the last election because of Dion's eco focus and his other fairly left wing platform (I voted for an independent in my riding). What little he did mention about defence was more like the NDP than the Liberals as far as I was concerned. His economic policies weren't much better either.
And frankly, I won't vote Liberal again until they shift back to the centre, and getting Rae and/or the NDP onboard won't make that happen. Adding the Greens into the mix makes it even more unlikely I'll vote Liberal. If that means voting for some lameass little fringe party, than I will.
Had Harper kept the promises (from 2006) I deemed important, I would have voted for him in 2008. However, he showed me that he's essentially like all the other career politicians in Ottawa - interested in power and not much more, so he lost my vote too.
I'm not a Liberal or a Conservative, but a middle of the road kind of guy. When a party actually goes back to the middle, they'll have my vote, not before.

The NDP grew out of the CCF. They did not fracture off the Liberal party.
That is entirely untrue east of Manitoba. The NDP certainly did attract the bulk of its support in Central and eastern Canada from left-leaning former Liberals.
The Liberals have or have had 3 major problems since they were last in power.
1) the fact they were in power for so long the last time and essentially accomplished nothing.
2 and 3) Both Dion and Iggy have the same appeal as chewing on tin foil.
At this point, Iggy could come up with the best and most relevant platform for Canada and nobody 'cept the hardcore Lib supporters would give a rat's ass.

I was talking more about the origins of the party than where its support base came from.

I never figured you for the anti-eco type. Hell the eco guys were saying the Libs didn't go far enough.
As for his lack of military policy, well I think a fair bit of that might be a result of Martin spending big in that regard only to have it thrown back in his face.

Well, the problem here is that so few people who oppose this merger/coalition voted Liberal so the loss won't be noticable.
Just out of curiosity what policies do you think lean to far left considering the NDPers I talk to say that the Libs lean to far right?

A fact I noted in the F-35 thread. Myself the Conservative stance on abortion and the threat they represent to its freedom (as well as a few other social issues) means I will never support them and will likely never find common ground with them.

I know that, but the NDP is a national party and the CCF didn't exist east of Manitoba. The origin of the NDP in MOST of Canada IS a splintering off the left of the Liberal party (as well as regional socialist parties, such as the United Farmers of Ontario, the Maxist-Leninists, etc, etc).

Consider me educated.

That would be about the situation
Sorry, I'm confused, do you mean "yup, that's about it?" or is there a situation I missed which is specifically mentioned in that article about as coalition being developed to beating?
Otherwise, it's no different from any other polls -- whenever any big event happens they poll people to see where everyone stands. Or is it just too late for me to be up?
I was just agreeing with you.
I often get up in the middle of the night and have several night caps to put me back to sleep but post in the mean time. It doesn't seem to affect my posting.
