Selling them to supply my newly adopted drug habit sounds like a better plan ;-)
(isn't that a requirement to live and work in Fort Mac? )

Yes. If you don't like cocaine, booze, uppers, downers, reds, bennies . . . and prostitution, you shouldn't enroll your kids in school there.

Thanks very much for the suggestion, Megan. I do have 2 teen age girls tho, so that is not really an option...

It's not at all a bad suggestion although you'd probably find it easier to find similar work in Alberta.

One of our news programs down here had an segment on a 30-ish and petite young woman who is driving these god-awful HUGE trucks in the oil sands...if she can do it I imagine you can, too.

No 'glass ceiling' here. Only Lexan & steel!

(google) women as heavy equipment operators in the Oil Sands

All that matters is if they can do the job! [B-o]

Oh! And STDs. People like to share in Fort Mac.

And I leave my 2 teenage kids where for months on end?

Lisa and I have room if you ever need it. They can come live with us in Sacramento or crash at the condo in Victoria.

There are plenty of them there, but are employers willing to train?

You guys make it sound that if you just send them your resume, you have a job as long as you are willing. It doesn't really work that way

The whole crux of my point of view about people on min wage.^^

They are presented with a viable opportunity to rise way above, but rather than exploring ways that they might be able to accomplish such, so much easier to immediately start puking out excuses as to why they can't!

Brenda @ Fri Feb 07, 2014 2:34 pm

SERIOUSLY Yogi???
Wow.

It does! How much experience does a 20 year old University student have driving heavy equipment?

They gave her the job! If you are smart enough not to crash within sight of a safety inspector, they'll probably hire you.

You, in no way, have even begun to to do ANY research before you come out with another Poor Me retort. You give credence to my previous posts!

Yeah, if they are moving to Sacramento, then so will I. Sun!!! :D

They're too young to live on their own, so no Victoria ;-)

Sure, Yogi, you're awesome.
I'm a dumbass bitch who actually prioritizes her kids so I don't deserve more than make a meager little wage.

You have NO clue what I have been doing, and I advice you to shut the hell up before I explode on you.

There's a lot of jobs in the oil fields where they'll take anyone who can fog a mirror. They really are that desperate. I've got a standing offer from Marathon Oil to come do tech work starting at US$125 an hour. Honestly, in California $125 an hour requires a skill set way above my head.

Of course, that makes me wonder why Andy and Mr. Canada won't go and make some serious $$$ instead of bitching about how their loser-employers need to agree to a higher minimum wage!

and...???

I do know what I am talking about! I wasn't given an office with a mahogony desk on which to prop my feet and twiddle my thumbs while the $$$ rolled in! On several occasions I had to uproot my family and move into unknown territory in order to follow the work. Ft, Mac was one of those locations. My kids didn't get involved in the drug scene or sex business. Every place is what you make it!

ShepherdsDog @ Fri Feb 07, 2014 3:35 pm

Housing would be problematic because it costs an arm and a leg, although she could land an admin position that pays good coin
