It's the Roman lnks Ray.

Manchester was called Mancunia when Rome was the light in that Green and Sceptic Isle.

I've read enough of "Astérix le Gaulois" to have figured that out.

Getafix: one of the best names ever attached to a character

Sorry, I never read them in English... but that IS funny.

I loved Asterix when I was a kid. Great books!

I've got most of the animated films they've made. I thought Asterix and Obelix in Britain was hilarious...the britons all broke off for tea even in the middle of battle. However, one of my favourite gags in the movie was Astrtix and obelix being told to drink their beer before it cools off.

The 12 tasks of Asterix also stands out, for the place that drives you mad...any government office.

I loved the Asterix in Britain books. Asterix was (probably still is) very popular in the UK.

Always wondered how popular they were in English.

Guess I got my answer.

Brenda @ Mon Jul 04, 2011 4:34 pm

They were (are) very popular in Dutch too. Just because Goscinny and Uderzo were French doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't know them. Peyo was Belgian, and everybody knows the Smurfs. Dick Bruna is Dutch. Everybody knows Miffy...

To be honest, I had to look Miffy up. :(

Never read it to your kids, huh

it's popular over here. Once I saw the picture I recognized it. I thought it was just part of the entire Hello Kitty franchise, which they go ga ga for over here.

My kid is 30.

Since this thread is partly about shagging, I've got a story. My son and his wife decided that 3 kids was enough, so my son went under the knife a few weeks ago. But it seems that the little swimmers had one last mission.

Just got a phone call... number 4 is on the way.

Sort of goes against the trend of most young Quebecois doesn't it?

Lemmy @ Mon Jul 04, 2011 5:56 pm

Congratulations. [B-o] Now get to the bank and start another grandkid's education fund.

Maybe we're going back to the way it once was.

My father comes from a family of 13 kids... we're 54 cousins on that side of the family. My mom had an aunt and uncle who had 19 kids. 8O

I could say...damned Catholics, but my maternal grandfather had 13 brothers and sisters and my maternal grandmother had 9. They were all Methodists and Presbyterians.
