Should prostitution be legalized in Canada?
LOL. I asked these questions back on page 1 but no one read it.
There's 15 who are for it and I'd like to see some field these questions, rather than just talking the party line.

Well, considering nothing has worked to curb the worlds oldest trade what do you suggest?
Compassion?
I'm sure it will never completely end as long as there is a demand for it. But legalising it just sends the wrong message to me and makes places a safe haven for all the weirdos out there. Do we really need more East Vancouvers? Do we want to become a trap for illegal immigrants who tend to find themselves in this lifestyle? In Amsterdam human trafficking is common so even if the act you are doing may be legal you being there really isn't and not many will say anything bad about their pimps or they will have to answer for their nationality. Not to mention those hooked on drugs also usually have a pimp too or a supplier. So the abuses of women the degrading of them don't end legal or illegal. It is like the slave trade where people were just property of their owners and masters and were bought and sold for their labour. Prostitution is not much different from slavery especially for a lot of people. If they leave they will be hunted down for no pimp wants to lose their property or source of revenue. Not to mention many have "debts" to pay that pretty much never end so they are trapped into the system. The only way to afford the costs of this self-abuse for those that use drugs is prostitution.
Escaping a life of prostitution would be a better goal for many people or trying to help them do so. Everyone I know who has left prostitution is a lot happier and would never go back. It is not easy but it can be done.
if its legal in europe...why shouldnt it be legal here?...theyre going to do it anyway legal or not...its been with us since biblical times and will still be here even after all of our great-great-great grandchildren die of old age

Nothing you suggested ends it.
Help people leave it.
I also said it will probably never end as long as people demand it. I guess you could go kill all the people who buy them, shoot prostitutes, and go door to door searching for them. Basically have some fascist type thing and a huge police force.

Its not going away, never will. And the income the governement can make on taxes, they could ELIMINATE the GST and lower taxes on other thinks, like gas and cigarettes.

They have a sin tax here no??
They can tax prostitution, cigarettes, marijuana, booz...
cut other taxes.
Gigantic tax windfall is crap.
We already have a huge underground economy where you can get a number of things done for cash. Redo you're bathroon or repair you're car, pay cash, everyone's happy and no taxes get paid.
Why on earth do you believe that someone who is already illegal is going to become legal and give half their proffits to the government?

They guesstimate tip reveune for waitresses, I gues they would just figure they get fucked at least 5 times a day on average at $125 a pop.
They manage to do it in Nevada above board, what makes Canada so much different? Are we just a little bit stupider...
So the solution is another arm of govenment to oversee the sex trade industry? The Ministry of Prostitution? Hard to tell the Liberals are behind this idea because it does not solve the problem and results in bigger government.

Are you suggesting there be a co-operation between the tax department and the police? They can't do that to pick off high level drug dealers and organized crime because it's against all sorts of civil rights. Now you suggest we use it to tax prostitutes?
What if a woman takes stuff instead of money? Is she a prostitute, a golddigger or a girlfriend, and who would deside? How do we ensure the workers who make the money, keep the profits and are not forced to pass it on to organized crime?
Since someone is answering questions, lets go back to page-1:

Those women went missing, not because they were prostitutes but because they were drug addicts.
Prostitutes who ply their trade in a respectable or descreet manor are not the problem, and legalizing them would make no difference.
Forced Prostitutution from drugs, illegal immigration, or force are the problem and they should be found and rehabilitated instead of legalized.
How does legalizing prostitution help these victims?
This may sound odd, but prostitution is already "legal"; that is to say, it's not against the law. It's "solicitation" that's illegal. (as I understand it) In Canada, you can have sex for money, you just can't propose the idea to anyone.
Escort services and massage parlours and all that sort of "respectable" commerce is already legalised and licensed.
"Legalization" of prostitution is not about tax money and regulation. It's about trying to keep women safer by eliminating pimps and keeping women off the streets. How this will keep underage hookers safe is beyond me, as no gov't agency is going to license girls as young as 9.

ridenrain I didn't realize you were a Conservative Bible-thumping good ’ol boy?
First off, I about as Liberal a G.W. Bush. nuff said.
My suggestion is to take the trade off the streets as they do in Nevada for a number of reasons.
1. safety for both parties
2. have you been on 3rd street in Calgary? or Robson Street in Vancouver, it's a mess of traffic and cruising, just take it inside and regulate it for drugs, disease and so on.
It's the oldest profession in the world and it's not going away any time soon, so better to regulate it.
