The USA sure know how to celebrate! Due to not much else of interest being on TV we ended up watching CNN coverage last night of the July 4th celebrations in various cities and I must say it was fucking awesome to watch. Some good bands performing good tunes and fucking cool fireworks displays.

   

No shit... was at some small Oregon coastal town in the 1990s, the fireworks were almost as big as Vancouver's Festival of Light, warships in the dock, bridge lined with flags, fighter jet flyover.
They go so bonkers you can't help celebrating along with them.

Too bad I'm no longer welcome as their friend and cousin I'm just another fucking foreigner.

   

Oregon has some very cool and beautiful coastal towns. My ex and I spent 2 weeks camping along the Oregon coast (mid 90's) and it was awesome, especially Cannon Beach, which I almost didn't want to fucking leave. Went back there a few years later for a couple of days after a trip with friends to Portland for the Indycar race weekend and although it rained like hell we still had a good time.

   

Fucking Timmies has gone from $2.25, to $2.40, and now $2.52 for a fucking cup of tea.

Only with debit or credit. Cash gets rounded. Debit/credit should be treated the same but that makes fucking sense so it won't happen anytime fucking soon. Just think... you save 2cents if you pay cash!

In my retail job the POS system we use is really outdated and doesn't automatically round the cash, we just enter it accordingly. When cashing out at the end of the day the cash balances itself out within 5cents or so. Debit/credit would work out the same.

   

I always pay cash for consumable items. Except for a couple years there, when no one wanted to touch anything someone else touched.

It's funny when I roll up to a drive through and they have the debit machine hanging out the window waiting for me to beep, and I fucking give them a 20, or a couple loonies or something. They always look at me like "oh yea, that's an option too".

   

i tend to reply 'No I don't have spare change. It's 2023 you should save what you do scrounge up for a wireless debit reader'

Like it's 2023, you need a pickup bed full of change to buy anything....
(my idea: make it illegal to sell cigarettes other than through an old cigarette machine. They don't take loonies or toonies, like 80 quarters, 200 dimes, 400 nickels only)

   

I want to say a certain major Canadian ISP fucking sucks, but they will go all creeper on me.

My friend is moving buildings, and wants the same internet at the new building. Fiber. 1GB up/500MB down. But the people who he deals with don't know how to request new service at the new site. So he's been calling business service. And they want to run a credit check on him, even though he's been with them for years.

Mean while, the only internet he can get before the move in in date of Aug 1 is Wireless. And there is some jenky set up that involves some tech coming out and installing the wireless booster, but not before the 18th. It's only 500MB down, 100MB up. The same setup in rurla areas is Gigabit, but there aren't as many customers using data out there.

   

When they call I always remark "Your wireless is so lame it needs a booster? No thx"

Today's FUCK! is for credit card companies. Wen the wife passed I called them to cancel the card and I paid her final balance out of my account. So they'd fucked up and she had a $20 credit. So for 19 months they've been making the effort and postage to inform her she had a $20 credit.
I did a similar thing to VISA when they sent me a card I did not ask for. Paid $1 too much for their 'fee', took them 3 years to stop sending me invoices to inform me they owed me 84c

Figured I'd be the nice guy, call and get a manager and let them stop wasting teir time & money. Ran into the "IT'S POLICY" trap.

So policy is: I have to send them proof I'm executor (see lawyer) plus cpy of death certificate ($35 at gov't office 160 km away) by registered mail, then they will send the fucking cheque to Estate of xxx (everything done 6 mos ago, account closed) and that's the ONLY way they can stop.
I guess I'll be "bench testing" the fucking shredder for a couple more fucking years.

I took some vacation from work. A co-worker told me tonight that the government pushed an update to workstations, and it failed. Now everyone has lost their documents, email and desktops. They have been pushing a move to everything in the cloud. Now it is raining.

I laugh, because I nor any member of my team has to fix that fuck up.

   

OMG some people watch too many TV car shows and fucking believe them.
Just saw an ad for a SIXTY YEAR OLD small travel trailer listed on FB marketplace here for "only" $7000.00

   

Amazon just phoned me because they couldn't deliver my package. I gave them all my personal information so they could deliver the fucking package that I never ordered.
