Today on the radio they were talking about the gross things people eat....things like fried chicken feet, pig feet, etc.
I wondered about some of the gross things I've heard of people eating and what I myself won't eat. What are some of the gross things you have eaten or just can't bring yourself to try?
1. pig's feet
2. tongue
3. chicken feet
4. chitlins (spelling)
5. escargo
6. worms or bugs (like they do on fear factor-yuck!)
many more i'm sure, but that's all i can think of now.
Acadian Rappie Pie - looks like anaemic vomit & tastes as good as it looks
Also, I worked in rural India for a bit & whilst there, the village elders wanted to treat their guests to the yummiest fare they could provide. They killed & curried the sacred village chicken and I had to eat whatever they put before me (or it's considered an insult.) The chicken's eyes really made my stomach turn. There were quite a few curried feathers too.
I've had chicken feet, they are a dim sum staple. They're tasty but they are tons of itty bitty bones. I've had lots of escargo, I like 'em, and I've had bugs in Thailand. You can buy them by the can there. I was in a mall and was able to sample grasshoppers, meal worms, etc. They are fried to the point where there's not much there but the crunchy exoskeleton. When we butchered cattle, when I was a kid, we would give the tongue, heart, and tail away. So I was never subjected to that. I have had tripe, is that close to chitlins? I'm very adventurous when I go out to eat, I'll try damn near anything.
Well some may think its nasty. It was not bad at all.
Smoked Horse meat !
Yummmmmmmmmm
ugh....i guess i'm picky. no bugs for me--slimy or fried thank you (of course if i was starving i may make an exception)....
Nothing that I have ever eaten has been nasty for me to eat.
I have had stuff like
1) squid
2)seaweed
3)octopus
4)bugs
5)liver(weird, but not bad)
why is it that humans are not supposed to eat animals that eat meat? like a bear? is there some reason or i'm i just confused?
oh, this topic is GREAT for my diet.
I've lived in Taiwan for a fair number of years and everything is fair game. One Christmas, our host brought out a huge platter of rooster testicles( sweet and sour chicken balls means something entirely different here). If i want rooster nards I'll eat hotdogs, thank you very much! Smoked goose brains, pig brains etc. I'm not saying all the food is like that here, as there is some really excellent cuisine, but in a land where meat is at a premium nothing is wasted. The northern Chinese have a saying about the southerners. They are hard workers who can do any job well, except being a zoo keeper, as the animals seem to disappear.
my dad was in korea for a year and he said that my dog wouldn't have lasted a week....
hm thanks Arctic Menace....i thought maybe it had to do with transmissions of disease or something in the blood....
they believe they've traced the SARS originatore to cats people eat as a delicacy in China....
Oh yeah - just thought of something else that grosses me out. In the North of England, a lotta folk like eating something called "Lardy cake" which is a cake made out of lard (solid animal fat). As you swallow it, you have an automatic gagging reflex to the consistency of the "cake" *starts gagging just thinking about it*
*pukes*
*wipes up mess from desk*
*cleans computer monitor with wet wipe*
*recovers composure*
I have seen some pretty gross things presented to the contestants on Fear Factor - but nothing can compare with Lardy cake.
A lot of people eat Bear meat and most people eat pork (MMMMMM Bacon) and they are both omnivores. Truth be told they taste very close(more so if it's wild boar and bear), bear being slightly stonger in flavour and greasier.
worst thing ive ever eaten is when i was maybe 6-8 i was eating chocolate chip cookies and there was this little brown thing on the ground that i THOUGHT was a choc chip and it ended being a little peice of poo i will never forget that moment tasted worse then anything ive ever had
Thanks Stifler
