You Liberals would be Proud of me.
So here is the situation. As some of you know I own a couple of small businesses in Edmonton. One of the larger ones personnel wise has a staff of 18. Anyway, I have a pretty mixed bag of folk with 5 indians, 2 blacks and the rest whites but all are Christian or secular. The other day I hired my first Muslim into a supervisory role as he was the best candidate for the job and many on my staff expressed their concerns privately amongst one another. The real problem for me is that my shop foreman (not even under the guy's authority) refuses to work in any company that employs one of the enemy forcing me into a position where I had to ask for his resignation as I will not tolerate any discrimination and insist all employees be judged/promoted on merit.
To make a long story short I really need the shop guy far more then the supervisor as the shop foreman is a skilled position and I'll probably not find a replacement for the next 6 months.
Damn.
To be honest, if I knew he felt that strongly about Muslims I probably wouldn't have hired this new supervisor in the first place; just to keep the peace.
At least I'm honest.

Honesty AND integrity! Very hard to find these days. You are to be commended for your decision GFPB.
Undoubtedly, you have saved a lot of grief 'down the road' as it is just a matter of fact that more immigrants will be entering the workforce in the forseeable future.
And as you stated, 'The most qualified person got the job'. As long as he isn't espousing his religious beliefs in the workplace, it should be of absolutely no concern to anyone. Kudos to you!

What kinda guy that can't go for a beer after work. Not for me.
GFPB...i have no love for muslims myself which i'm sure you know very well by now..but you CANT have employees issuing you ultimatums like that..i'd imagine with your 0% unemployment in alta but may not easily get him replaced but to reiterate...you CANT cave in to ultimatums of that nature
You did the right thing but I agree that you'd have been better to have kept the foreman instead. It's too bad they couldn't find a way to get along.
You can always move you're head office to Shawinigan, get a huge industry grant and maybe some favorable tax benefits. The province could also pay you're employees EI for the winter. then you need to contract to the Feds, re-direct checks, hire ministers girlfriends and dumb family etc.. Send in huge bills for travel expenses and packs of gum too.
Then the Liberals would be proud of you.

Who really cares what religion they practise in their spare time anyway?
The shop foreman never should have done what he did. He should have sucked it up and give the guy a chance. I think with his aditude, he will be on welfare for the rest of his life.
I agree with Lily: You make me choose, you'll be the one who has to go...

He couldn't have done anything else than he did.
He'd have a lawsuit on his lap if he did it the other way around and I believe that's the real reason for his actions.

He would of then be robbed.
$1:
Almost 90% of all robberies reported to the police were committed by gangs, not individuals. “When we are in the city and robbing we are waging a war, waging a war against the Swedes.” This argument was repeated several times. “Power for me means that the Swedes shall look at me, lie down on the ground and kiss my feet.” The boys explain, laughingly, that “there is a thrilling sensation in your body when you’re robbing, you feel satisfied and happy, it feels as if you’ve succeeded, it simply feels good.” “It’s so easy to rob Swedes, so easy.” “We rob every single day, as often as we want to, whenever we want to.” The immigrant youth regard the Swedes as stupid and cowardly: “The Swedes don’t do anything, they just give us the stuff. They’re so wimpy.” The young robbers do not plan their crimes: “No, we just see some Swedes that look rich or have nice mobile phones and then we rob them.”

Why is racial equality now a Liberal trait ? You did what you were supposed to do. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Why was this mentioned then ? Now you are in a grey area considering most Muslim countries have no seperation between church and state. In any case, religious and racial equality are Canadian values that are protected for all citizens. Complying with the laws of the country certainly doesn't deserve any special gratitude as it is something we should expect of all Canadians.
