MattyC for Cadet Medal
-MC- @ Mon Apr 17, 2006 3:41 pm
There is nothing wrong with the generic cadet medal. If there is a concern here, it should be addressed by current and former cadets.

that aside I didnt know you could Nominate yourself for medals.......

Not only that, you can create your own medals, and then nominate yourself for them!
I'm working on my Engineer medal as we speak...

What's your problem? I suggested the medal and it was accepted. A number of cadet medals were made but not everyone agreed on a single one. Things were stalled so I whipped one up, and it was approved.
This site celebrates among many things our history and uniqueness. That is why I suggested a cadet medal. Engineering is not only unique to Canada. This isn't about me getting a medal; it's about cadets getting a medal.

But it was also brought up that several other groups could be singled out. Why just the cadets? What about the Boy Scouts or the Girl Guides? 4-H club?
Heck... I used to deliver newspapers - doesn't that merit a medal too?
I used to deliever newspapers too, but there isn't any merit there for a medal. Maybe there should be a medal for scouts/guides, and maybe someone will make a suggestion for it. In my opinion, I don't think they are on the same level with cadets.

What's your problem?
Nothing, 'tis but for
* the sake of argument.

Cadets is as unique to Canada as engineering is.

Can I design my own little league hockey/soccer/baseball veteran medals while I'm designing my beaver/cubs/scouts veteran medals?
Hows about a high school graduate medal???
Licensed driver medal?
Skilled trades medal?
An "I've been to Canada's Wonderland more than ten times" medal?? That has Canada written all over it....
FuBaR @ Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:21 pm
Thats enough of this bickering crap about this medal. We have decided that there is enough pride and interest in the responisiblty involved with being a cadet to warrant a medal. If you have a problem with it being a medal, then PM me. This discussion is for people who would like to apply for the medal.
I am applying for this medal as I am currently a cadet in the 2370 Royal Canadian Arty Army Cadet Corp affiliated with the 10FD in Regina, SK.

Oh? And why is that?
I don't want a Guide medal... but I'm curious as to why you think either movement is lesser than cadets.
This was discussed in the suggestion topic; I think it was page 4.
Frankly I don't see the problem with the medal. This was initiated by a former cadet, accepted by cadets/ex-cadets and people involved with the program whether CIC etc... It has been accepted by Trev and it has absolute relevance on this site. If you weren't a cadet or are not informed about the program, then I guess you don't understand. Since this seems to be the case with more than a few, should you really be knocking it?

Why do you bother to post? Why do people think that cadets is some lowly kiddy thing where people go to knit sweaters?

If by discussed you mean a few people said "Cadets is better" then you're right... it was discussed in depth.
However... a quick glance shows that the people supporting the medal are current or former cadets... including the above mod who admits to wanting the medal himself.

I said it was covered, I said nothing about it being in depth. Most of the people posting were affiliated with cadets in some way. Not satisfactory? Go research it yourself.
Oh no, conspiracy! Are you going to tell me that all the medals on these forums do not have the slightest of interest among select groups of people?
FuBaR @ Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:46 pm
Ok, people, I said that isnt what this topic is for. They are medals to show peoples contributions to our country and also to this site. This topic is not the arena for debating whether or not this medal should be allowed.
FuBaR @ Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:07 pm
If your post does not directly relate to people receiving the Cadet Medal then dont post it. If you have a rant or even a rave about this medal, or the medal system, guess what, we have a special forum category for that. Im really getting tired of deleting posts after I warned everybody.

Ok,It says this is this the place to nominate or "apply" for a medal. So I dont see what the big deal is about someone applying for one.
My mom as a commercial pilot and instructor taught lot's of cadets their ground school and even used her piper to take up a few budding young pilots who are now in our air force for mountain training.
Air Cadets aint boy scout's,I like to think of them as pilots in training for the CAF and if you seen the shit my mom used to put them through in ground school and during flight training you would know what's expected of them. After all,she was the one to do the solo flight with lots of them.
My mom logged lots of hours and was an accomplished bush pilot, she is 4 foot nothing and I used to enjoy watching her teach her cadet's,most of the "kids" were 6 foot or better, just kid's but there was no joking around in my mom's class,I noticed the respect for authority from these guy's,they wanted to fly, nothing else.
I guess my point is that Air cadets are just as disciplined as some in the military and the effort put in for that is often missed my most. You dont hear of air cadets rolling into town for something and making the new's the next day because some got hammed up or created a fraca's.
So I'm for AC medals,I seen what some of those folks went through, they deserve it as much as anyone.
Just ask my mom.

bah!
Okay, so how about Cadet medal, and Cadet Veteran?
Kinda like the way we have soldier and veteran medals?
Or how about the Cadet Medal just applies to people who are and have been cadets...
