More free advice - go out and get laid.

I don't think you are in any position to hand out anything *free* least of all telling someone to get laid. Keep your sexual problems to yourself. Don't use the forums as a mask for your own sexual deviance.

Really, you are taking this way to seriously.

Next time use someone else's name to slander and make yourself feel good. I realize that in itself must be a trying thing for you but your self-esteem or lackof is not my problem. Go to counciling.

Take that advise.

Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:
I think the point is you just can't go ripping people off and expect to get away with it all the time.

We have seen the Canadians and the British before them make deals that were clearly done in bad faith. We have settled land claims because of blatant fraud by the "white man".

As long as you have the ethnocentric attitude that the white man did everything good for this world and the rest of us are cave men, then yes, you will hear us protesting.

Who cares what Toronto is worth today? If they tricked the Native people out of the land that Toronto now sits on then those Indians have legal recourse to do something about it.

Ripping people off is a part of history and yes, you can expect to get away with it. The Anglo-Saxons did it to the Britons, the Romans did it to the Gauls, Germans did it to everyone in Europe, Ottoman Empire did it to the Byzantines, Armenians....etc etc and so forth.

Do the Greeks want compensation from the Turks for the city of Constantinople(Istanbul) which is a great centre of commerce? Anatolia? Maybe, maybe not but if they do, they'll never get it because of a little thing called civilization and human nature. It's human nature to enroach upon the weak and settle because the weak could not resist them. Sorry but Native Americans are not the only people throughout history to have their land claim problems but only because of the time in history which is more recent than those other examples I've mentioned that land claims can actually become a viable issue.

SireJoe SireJoe:
What exactly makes you think they were tricked anyways? Im just trying to understand your perspective here.....Did the "white" man have a gun against your ancestors head and say sign or else or what?

There are thousands of different cases.

Some were trickery - i.e. telling them they could live on their land if they signed the documents and then turning around and telling them the documents meant they has surrendered their land.

Some fraud - i.e. forging a vote form the band agreeing to sell the land (very common).

Some were coercion - i.e. the traditional forms of livelihood were eliminated and the people were sick and starving.

The land claims that have been settled are legal settlements. The government’s lawyers advise them to settle or risk losing in court.

If we claim a $100 million land claim and the government lawyers calculate the odds of them losing. If they feel they have a 60% chance of losing then they will negotiate up to $60 million. If that is not accepted then they go to court.

Motorcycleboy Motorcycleboy:

If we're going to go back over history, then wouldn't the descendents of the Britton's, who now reside mostly in Wales, be entitled to downtown London? After all, the Brittons used to control the Thames before the Roman's conquered them.

If they have legal claims and can get them to court somewhere then I guess they would have some course of action.

I guess you fail to recognize that the laws we live with in Canada today are based on the accumulation of laws plus those inherited from the British.

If you as a Canadian choose to ignore those laws then the whole system fails. The laws that protect my rights as an Indian are the same laws that protect your rights as a Canadian.

If you feel your rights are being trampled on then you have the same right as I do to stand up and do something about it.

Maybe you can find a prostitute that has student rates. Your pent up rage is making you crazy.

Well, I get your point.

If you would have told me that about 500 years ago I might have been able to prevent all of this.

To bad, because your quote really casts a shadow on the moral character of people from that side of the world.

I didn't know those facts, thanks for filling me in.

Anyways, this does not change the fact that we have legal recourse for some of the wrongs that Canada (all people of all colours, religions and races) have committed against the Native people of this country.

If you don't like it I'm sure you know how to apply to get intervener in our court cases, which would allow you to present your evidence and information to a judge who will hopefully laugh you right out of the courthouse (after he commends you on your prose I’m sure).

Owned became to popular. Or it was originally a typo for Owned, and caught on.

Now you're soliciting prostitution on internet forums. What the hell is wrong with you? This is the second time you've had a reference towards sex. Like I said, go to counciling instead of pushing freebies on the internet. You need help.

Oh, that's just absolute fooking nonsense.

People were exactly the same way here. The Huron displaced the Algonquin, the Iroquois displaced the Algonquin and then the Huron, et c., et c.

Things were the same in the West and South America.

Conquerors took from the conquered everywhere from the beginning of time.

And if you want to fake an attitude of moral superiority based on a fantasy of pre-Columbian American life, then that just shoots down --not just your whole argument-- but your whole affected personality. Because doing that, faking moral superiority, says more about your psychological needs than anything else, and puts your land claims into perspective as the deluded fantasies of a starved ego.

Tman1 @ Sun Jun 25, 2006 4:05 pm

Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:
Well, I get your point.

Actually I don't think you do. Those instances are similar to the plight of the Native Americans being tossed off their lands by other people. People will always be replaced by other people. That is human nature and morality has no part of it. Sad really.
$1:
If you would have told me that about 500 years ago I might have been able to prevent all of this.

Marty Mcfly and ol Doc Brown would laude your attempts to go back into the future to "prevent" whatever it is you want to prevent. Just don't go breaking the flux capacitor and be sure to take an ample amount of plutonium.

That's called humanity and history and it casts the exact same shadow on this side of the world, you and me included.

Hey Mcfly, I never said you didn't have any legal recourse for some of the wrongs committed against aboriginals in this country. I can acknowledge that Natives were screwed over in some deals but alas, some of those deals should be taken up to the British monarchy, not the current government of Canada. However, making ecstatic claims like Toronto or whole areas like Winnipeg and pretty much all of the New World are unfounded and only prove my points regarding people being replaced by other people's.

Where did I say I didn't like it? Why would I need to go to court? Why would I care what a judge thinks about my prose? Why do you say stupid things that don't make sense?

Those are a lot of why's which you didn't bother to check out before typing that slop down.

And some were outright and legitimate sales.

There were a large number of wholly legitimate reasons why different native groups would have wanted Europeans in their neighborhood and would have sold land to them at convenient terms.

Algonquin groups wanted the French so they could play off the Huron and the Iroquois, and the Massachusett wanted the English at Boston so they would be the better enabled to kick Wampanoag ass.

Get a job racist.

Donny, I agree with RUEZ that you should try and tone down the racsism or perhaps state that it was the Whites of the time and making the agreement that met the qualities you stated. I definitely agree with that.

RUEZ however, try to understand that it is extremely difficult to not become racsist when you are surrounded by so many racsists. I look White despite my bone structure, and I have been exposed to so much racsism I almost took up the hatchet against the Whites several times. But I did not forget that I am Metis, and that we are part White ouselves. I always maintained that for my race to be formed there must have been some common ground between the Indians and the Whites to intermarry, and it is for this reason only that I do not hate every White I speak to and have in fact begun to meet several non- racsist Whites, much to my pleasure.

The Huron were Algonquin, and the Iroquois were not able to displace anyone until they recieved military aid from the English and disease aid form the French.

I can however say that the Blackkfoot displaced tribes in their move west, though they didn't conquer any of them, the same with the Cheyenne.

The Iroquois displaced the Algonquin when they arrived in New York from Virginia/North Carolina.

All these groups moved as regularly as the Magyars, the Goths, and everybody else.

Nobody's actually "from" anywhere.

Except one guy in China, whose family actually evolved into homo sapiens sapiens right on the spot where his house stands today.
