First thing the Federal Government needs to do is release our Oil, Gas, Gold money that the NDN had dug up on our lands, that has been put in 'trust' And take off all the red tape on it too. Allow us to invest it. The NDN's have millions in the federal government 'trusts'. We may have many millions, yet the grasswords people get just change, Welfare? Is what operates in the Cities, and towns. On reserve it started out as Federal transfer payments for Treaties that were both signed by the 2 parties. NDN and the European hmmm Signatory I guess. How it got turned to the name of 'welfare' is a good, coverup, copout. Going back to the 'Trust' holdings, Whatever one can call out.Since when does someone has to apply for there own money. NDN"S are not lazy, Idle maybe after they been put in the reserves and not told to comeout and work, or bring out any inventions. And yet give money to the NDN's what is there else to do? Party I guess. Lol. But nowadays the NDN's are trying to come out . There has been lotta exodus actually, from the reserves to the hmm off-reserves. Ndns are realising it. "Hey all of Canada/ USA is all my mothersoil, motherland nobodies is going to stop me, now. For seeing, exploring it either, thats over now.

J-Girl J-Girl:
Thank you for that Column you shared PJB...I found it very interesting and very true. I agree that it is time to stop blaming everyone else, including the government, for one's lack of motivation, poor upbringing, whatever the excuse may be and get out there and make the best of what we have to work with, as individuals.

I like Chief Louie and Roy MacGregor's attitudes about life and "the way it should be".

And Stratos.....the "politically correct" term to use changes all the time, so I don't think you need to apologize. On my status card...it states that "J-Girl is an Indian under the Indian Act.....", but that term is not used anymore....don't ask me what the correct one is.
Do you know that the NDN's of today actually came out of? Generational? Most or some of the people today has very deeply scarred from Child rape. Do you know what repercussions than can actually do? How it can totally wreck someones own life. To be stunted in every area of there lifes. i don't expect you to understand this one bit. I don't expect you to really care either cause it was the Europens that done the pedophilia acts on the DN defenseless children, CHILDREN.

Virgil Virgil:
Some of his simplicity I agree with. Some of his simplicity is ignorance. He is no more Aboriginal than is Steven Harper. I am quite surprised he is a chief at all. Open advocacy of the idea that we should start being White men is no more politically logical than it is possible of us doing so.

You sound like one of the 20% that he speaks of. The ones that he tells to 'get over it'. As he says you will loose your culture and language faster in poverty.

Keep believing that you are owed something and eventually you will get what you deserve.
NDN;s don't owe you the LAnd either. Don't owe you absolutely nothing. (Land)

PJB @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:55 am

BC...Fine..The natives do not owe me the land. Fair enough...Pay back every penny that our government paid you. Pay the developers who extracted those resources for the millions of dollars that they invested extracting those resources. Pay for road development, pay for power lines.

Pay your fair share and you can have your damn lands. I will pay you for them but you damn well better provide every service that is already provided.

You want all the land and resources but you figure you don't have to invest anything in it or pay royalties for it.

YOU, are just a tenant, no more no less. Get it? Do you know what the relationship the Landlord and tenant have? I will tell you. The landlord provides the said substance. If the Landlord says "well you have to pay all the utilities, you do ur own, blah, blah," Then the tenants sign it. If the tenant don't agree, they don't sign, Great. No deal. But in this case. The European signatory signed. I don't really know what the actual agreements are, perse. I would have to do some research for the sake of this argument, I guess. The tenant can't come back and say " I changed my mind, can I get all my rent money back?" The landlord will just laugh at you. And kick ur sorry ass, out. Go to rentalsman, they will tell you the same thing. Canada made in one year approximately 60 trillion that one year, 60 TRILLION Dollars, Out of that we managed to get 8 billion. And you want that, too? It's not going to happen, you greedy, homeless, reject.

BC...You are a very shitty landlord! Clean up the mess in your own backyard before you start demanding more yard!

I owe you NOTHING! I went to school on my own dime, got a job and worked hard to get where I am and I will never agree with some half-wit that thinks that because they are too friggin' lazy to make something out of themselves that I am responsible for their lot in life!

You want to better yourself do it on your own friggin' dime and not mine!

Biblical_Christian @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:35 am

ill be back, PMS.

PJB @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:35 am

BC...Please show me where that 60 Trillion dollars came from.

Donny_Brasco @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:19 am

Lets say you were born in an apartment where your parents pay rent.

That does not mean you own the apartment. Same thing here. If Canadians fail to live up to the agreements they made to share this land then they are little more the squatters on someone elses land.

And in British Colombia, most of the land has not been accounted for under treaty and still remains the property of the original owners. So most folks in BC are in generations of squatters.

But say what you will. THis Chief is right, despite our differences in opinion, we must move forward. We will move forward but we will also never forget the outstanding debt Canada has to First Nations people.

Some day each and every land claim will get its due process through court costing both sides billions and billions in legal fees alone.

So bitch all you want. No government of any sort in any province is going to make us go away. You might as well try to deal with it.

PJB @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:28 am

Donny...I never said anything about wanting you to go away. I totally agree with what Chief Louie says. It is time for the natives of this country to stop depending on government funding for everything they do. We all know that every federal department in this country is so full of beauracrats that nothing ever gets done efficiently. Too many natives love that promise of instant wealth through these treaty land agreements that they fail to see the economic potential that those monies present. They would rather have the shiny new truck rather than a promise of a life for their children. Too many figure that once they get their little windfall that when it runs out they can just go ask for more because someone told them 'they were entitled to it'.

The story or excuse that I am merely a squatter in this country holds no water with me as I was BORN here!

Why demand more yard. What the Landlord, does is none of your business. NDN's made agreements with the Federal Government, not the grassroots people. After the agreements were signed by NDN's and the European signatory.( Federal Government,). Then they called for the Boats. YOu grassroot person have made the agreements with the federal govenment. Land, power, etc, etc. You want to bypass the Feds? And try and make another deal with us? No sorry it can't happen, NDN's have given over the reigns to the Federal Government. So if you have a problem take it up with them.

PJB @ Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:34 am

BC...Quick question...Do you vote either provincially or federally?

If you think you have a case take it to the federal government, I'm sure stephen harper would LOVE to hear it. So would I. No sense crying and bawling all over the CKA. But it looks good on you.

Sorry for the double post.

OK BC...You disagree with me but do you disagree with the article I originally posted?
