Wow. That sounded like a tag team spam match!
What does 'a tag team spam match' mean?
Spam: To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities.
tag team n. A team of two or more wrestlers who take turns competing against one of the wrestlers on another team, with the idle teammates waiting.
The Olympics has always been about politics, way before the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Berlin. As soon as nationality and gobs of money got involved, the innocence of the competition went out the window.
China is using this to paint themselves as a modern, first world country when the reality is quite different.
Well, in many ways China is very conservative and in many ways they are very modern. I'm surprised with your mindset that you aren't more open to the possibilities China could afford you as a citizen.
first world? first maybe in its imagination. part of their problem, and taiwan's, is the belief that they are already at the top of the ladder. they don't believe that they need to improve, so they don't. they have isolated pockets that almost seem first world like, but in reality it's just window dressing. basic human rights, rule of law and infrastructure are sadly lacking.

Canada should boycott the Olympics until China or at least Hong Kong has a real democracy.
We've boycotted Olympics in the past (Moscow 1980) and it didn't do anything to change the political situation in Afghanistan. If you want to hurt China you have to cut trade with them. Problem is too many people like the cheap crap at Wal-Mart...
mmmm.... prestone... now with flouride.

Always worth the effort. Sure threatening sanctions would probably wake them up but as you said it is unlikely the people here really care that much about them.

What, a Gulag of my own with a discount on internal organs?
Perhaps all the counterfeit products I could ever use?
Perhaps even enough money and support to run a US presidental campaign?
I think chinese just want to make a great Olympics game for the world.
China is a friendly

Wouldn't China have blocked this site from access?

For most people they would, but they also allow government shills and toadies to troll around and post BS on various forums. Before I was active on this site I used to be on Free Republic and they have no end of shills for the Chinese government on there who get all "offended" whenever people post favorable items about Taiwan, Falun Gong, Tibet, or the Dalai Lama.
The mods over there sniff them out and ban them as trolls as a matter of routine.
Curious, isn't it, that this was Bobby Chan's
only post?

Then the 2008 will be a public relations disater for the old men in charge. What is the point of spending all the time and money to go there an sit in the stands and try to see events like the 100m when the runners cannot see the finnish line from the starting line. NO SHIT! Air that you can see!
