Hey guys,

I'm totally new to this site and forum... happy to have found it too since I need a Canadian fix every now and then!

Ok on to more important things... having not lived in Canada for about 5 years, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to what's going on in the world of sports.

I was at the Olympics in Greece and managed to somehow get tickets to every event Canada didn't seem to have a hope in hell in. Does anyone follw summer sports? Do we have any up and comers that are expected to do well in China? Any events to keep an eye on? Or is it too early to know?

I'm expecting to go in 2008 and want to start following some of our athletes so I know what's going on and what tickets to get ahold of.

Thanks!
Kirsty

Check for pre-Olympic hype in 2008.

Swimming, diving, cycling and track may be good bets.

Currently, 2008 tickets are only selling to Chinese citizens. I also have to say that the tickets are very cheap:

Sports Sessions US$3.82 - US$38.26 each
Finals US$7.65 - US$127 each
Closing Ceremony US$19 - US$382 each
Opening Ceremony US$25 - US$637

Yeah, it is very cheap for Canadians. So donnot hesitate, start making your plans for Beijing!

Wow. That sounded like a tag team spam match!

Canada should boycott the Olympics until China or at least Hong Kong has a real democracy.

Or let Tiawan determine it's own destiny. :-)

You're talking about the way the Chinese government forces itself onto it's people?

At least players are safer there, they dont need to worry about the terrific attacks

thatsnotmypuppy @ Fri Jan 19, 2007 5:48 pm

The Olympics are not a place for boycott or to make any political statement. It's about the athletes - who have trained all their lives to make it here, and now you're turning away your own athletes from performing.

Nope I'm in London, UK now but heading to Beijing in April for awhile. I put in for a bunch of tickets in June but don't find out which ones I got until September. The cheapest Opening Ceremony tickets were about $300CDN but went for them anyways. No idea if I'll get the tickets I want or not but there's a chance to buy more in October I think. No idea if Canada will be crap at everything or not but I'll be with an Aussie friend so at least someone will be cheering!

Terrific attacks? Sounds like fun.

Spam: To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities.

tag team n. A team of two or more wrestlers who take turns competing against one of the wrestlers on another team, with the idle teammates waiting.

The Olympics has always been about politics, way before the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Berlin. As soon as nationality and gobs of money got involved, the innocence of the competition went out the window.
China is using this to paint themselves as a modern, first world country when the reality is quite different.
