Sarah

My name is Sarah
I am but three,
My eyes are swollen
I cannot see,

I must be stupid,
I must be bad,
What else could have made
My daddy so mad?

I wish I were better,
I wish I weren't ugly,
Then maybe my Mommy
Would still want to hug me.

I can't speak at all,
I can't do a wrong
Or else I'm locked up
All the day long.

When I awake I'm all alone
The house is dark
My folks aren't home.

When my Mommy does com e
I'll try and be nice,
So maybe I'll get just
One whipping tonight.

Don't make a sound!
I just heard a car
My daddy is back
From Charlie's Bar.

I hear him curse
My name he calls
I press myself
Against the wall.

I try and hide
From his evil eyes
I'm so afra! Id now
I'm starting to cry.

He finds me weeping
He shouts ugly words,
He says its my fault
That he suffers at work.

He slaps me and hits me
And yells at me more,
I finally get free
And I run for the door.

He's already locked it
And I start to bawl,
He takes me and throws me
Against the hard wall.

I fall to the floor
With my bones nearly broken,
And my daddy continues
With more bad words spoken.

"I'm sorry!", I scream
But its now much too late
His face has been twisted
Into unimaginable hate.

The hurt and the pain
Again and again
Oh please God, have mercy!
Oh please let it end!

And he finally stops
And heads for the door,
While I lay there motionless
Sprawled on the floor.

My name is Sarah
And I am but three,
Tonight my daddy
Murdered me.

   

This poem sucks.

But seriously, that was some pretty sad stuff...

   

I told you it was sad. I have a three year old so when I read it it really hit home to imagine someone could actually hurt a small child. But the truth of the matter is as much as it sucks it is the truth it happens everyday. Kids get abused.

   

Yes. And if that isn't bad enough, child abuse is the source of so many other social problems as well.

   

It sure is unthinkable

   

I read that child Abuse is the number one
leading cause of death of a child.Thats really sad to think that there are people out there committing these crimes against these defenseless, vulnerable and innocent kids.
Look into the eyes of a child and you can see the truth.

   

Very well said Shaker. There is nothing more precious or innocent and trusting then a child. It's just too sad to actually know that any person would harm a child. I look into my daughter's eyes and I can't even imagine how someone could hurt a little kid. She is the most important thing in my life.

   

This is the exact same poem one of the students in our grade 11 religion read in their Respect for Life speech for his media section.We had to make speeches in religion for such topics as abuse, abortion, euthanasia, and murder.We had to affirm the church's position on these issues as a pro-life project.We all share these values.Our school is a catholic school.The church condemns such actions like abuse.I cannot see how anyone would want to hurt a child.Children are gifts from God and are very fragile.If anyone ever were to hurt my niece, I would hunt the perpetrator down and make it so they can't hurt anyone or walk again.

   

and write lots of stories, poetry and songs about it too.

   

the poem is a good reminder to those who find themselves loosing control because we are god to those trusting little eyes . I have two little boys and they are my best buddies . That trust and need for me to be there for them is more than enough to ask for by any parent . Ya I think the poem is good but it sucks if you know what I mean .

Their is only one known cure for child abusers and it is 100% effective. Never another incident from the abuser.

   

No! far to lenient. How about this....

“That you be drawn on a hurdle to the place of execution where you shall be hanged by the neck and being alive cut down, your privy members shall be cut off and your bowels taken out and burned before you, your head severed from your body and your body divided into four quarters to be disposed of."
