IRONMIKE @ Tue Apr 29, 2003 8:59 pm

As of late I cannot help but notice this site has gone from a place for people to come who agree to be willing to disagree to an America Sucks site. So much for open exchange.

My opinions
- I respect Canada as a free nation and have had many opportunities to
learn about our Northern Friends (Not 51st state)
- I respect the wide varieties of views that used to be available on this forum
- I have a deep respect for the average Canadians' love for his/her country

Having purged my opinions I feel that recently all that has really been occuring on this forum are mud slinging, put down, slanderous rants and I see no reason to add fuel to the fire of hatred many of you have for the Great Satan to the South so I shall now retire my uname.

I will say this for the record. As much as you love your country I love mine. For every 1 bad thing you say about my country, there are 2 great examples that I can counter with. Americans are compassionate people not warmongering idiots. Americans are no more greedy or out to get rich than a Canadian, Briton, German or Iraqi for that matter. You can sling around your tired little line about burning OUR White House all you want and can even pretend to believe it if you like but I tell you now, as much as you would defend your soil, I would give my life for mine.

Blessings to all,
IronMike (Kurt)

I dont have anything against America. I hardley even post in war topics here. And when I do, its just on our (Canadian) government and if we should join the war, etc.

Hey, don't go Iron Mike. I for one enjoy your insight into the many discussions we are having here. Don't leave because of a few people who've gotten to you. You know any one of us could have posted that message you wrote and just changed the country's names around. There are good and bad apples on both sides of the border Iron Mike. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth, and I hope to see you around here some more in the future.

For what it's worth...I don't see a lot anti-Amercanism here. I see a lot of people speaking out against what the US is doing. I do not see that as anti-American though. I see it as anti-Bush. I see it as pro-American.

The US is an odd place...big and young and at the height of its power. It's constitution and the ideas that it's based on are a beacon to us all. It's just what's happening now that causes me to disagree.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I expect the USA to live up to its potential. I expect Canada and Britain and France and Austrailia to do the same. That requires criticism because if you don't know what you're doing wrong you can't fix it. Does it get harsh? You bet.

If it's any consolation Mike, your president is just the latest in a long line of pig-fuckers. We have our share, too. So does every place else. Feel free to point them out.

I don't hate the U.S I just think they shouldn't drag us into all their messes

Johnny-Canuck @ Fri May 02, 2003 8:01 am

Or make a big issue that were not joining them in the war.

Newfie Scott @ Fri May 02, 2003 8:33 pm

Much of the anti-americanism (or what seems to be) in Canada is really just us bragging about ourselves. The truth of the matter is that Canadians have a very bad habit, a very human one. When we brag about ourselves, we have a habit of saying "we're better than the US because we have this or we have that". Every "anti-american" comment is just the inability to state the benefits of Canada without comparison to the United States.

I myself have encountered very few anti-Americans - people who hate the United States with a passion. It isn't that Canadians hate the US, it's just that we like to compare ourselves to it.

Johnny-Canuck @ Fri May 02, 2003 10:05 pm

The reaqson I think why Canadians insult the US as a part of showing off pride is I think because too us, the US is the "big bully". Their the #1 super power and is the most talked about country on earth, so but us showing our Canadian pride, it means to throw stones at the USA, kinda telling them that their not as good as they think they are.

Besides, the main reason why I think we bash the US to show patriotism is because they are our only neighbours and the culture is very similar.

ABSOLUT_SS @ Mon May 05, 2003 11:51 am

You won't hear any anti-Americanisms? from me. I love the U.S.A. , and I'm proud to admit it. I fly the Stars & Bars and the Maple Leaf on my house and cars. Hell, I love Canada too. My ideal country would have the best of both, not one or the other. Try being an American trapped in a Canadians' body for a day or two up here. LOL.
In retrospect, some of my early posts were poorly thought out & seemingly anti-Canadian, but I know how ya feel Mike. The North Koreans could drive down main street here & nobody would give a shit, but christ, if Dubya came to visit the protesters would burn the place down. Fuck the socialists! Leading up to Iraq, the protesters swarmed the American & British embassies here daily, but you could take a peaceful nap on the lawn at the Iraqi embassy, and some idiot would probably buy you lunch.
I felt some anti-American sentiment too, but I think it was how I worded my posts. People were telling me to go back to Michigan, fast, if possible, because I dared to compare the U.S. in a better light than Canada. When the shit hits the fan though, most Canadians like America & Americans just fine. LTR

Koopsta @ Mon Jun 16, 2003 7:27 pm

I think that Canadians should be latching on to this new "hip" anti-American fashion. I see it way to often in my school, I think it just to simplisitc to just lump an entire nation together as being inbred, unintelligable and uninformed (after all CNN lol). But once again I don't think its fair when ppl put down Canada for not being enough like American (some say were not as free constitutionallluy, etc.) We are a DIFFERENT nation and we should be able to reepect each other.

WOULD SOMEONE PLZ STRAIGHTEN OUT THIS KID. http://www.filibustercartoons.com/ (his cartoons our pretty cool but some of his views about canada/usa are silly)

J.J. from Filibuster @ Tue Jun 17, 2003 10:18 am

What part of my views are silly?

I support America, and think in many ways Canadians live in a state of voluntary denial about how much alike the two countries are.
