Why shave at all?
Problem I find with the multi bladed razors is that they cram them so close together that they clog up pretty quick.
lily, re: shaving cream - I don't think it softens the hair any, it just makes it easier on your skin. I can't shave any time other than directly after a shower, unless I'm really desperate... I guess I could do the hot towel thing the barber does, but that's kind of weird to be doing on my own.
Shaving cream works as a lubricant to prevent the blades from digging into your skin. You still need to soften the whiskers first though, either applying warm water first or washing with a mild soap and rinsing well (shaving tends to open pores and soap residue in the pores will irritate worse than a dull razor). I've found that shaving cream applied to dry skin dries very quickly and loses it's lubricating benefits and the dry whiskers tend to get pulled and tugged by the razors, before they are cut, which requires multiple passes to get a clean shave versus just one pass on softened whiskers. Never shave against the grain (upwards) if you have sensitive skin. I don't know why they still show commercials with men doing this. That practice tends to remove a fine layer of skin and will get you no closer shave than if you've softened the whiskers properly beforehand. If you've got a knowledgeable barber, he'll do the warm towel treatment. That really softens the whiskers and gives you a super smooth and close shave.
I prefer the Mach3 razor, but it's getting really tough to find the blades. As it is, the only reliable source I've found is Walmart, but the closest one is a fifteen minute drive (followed by a 20 minute lineup at the cashier while someone empties their shopping cart of all the $1.50 items their welfare check can buy, and then another fifteen minute drive back home).
I agree Blue_nose.
Soon they will invent laser-shave razors not tested on animals :O lol
I think 2 blades is ok, maybe 3. The more blades you have the more the hair will clog.
1 blade isn't my first choice because of what happened to Lily :O it's like peeling a potato
but I don't like the goo strips. They leave my face slimier than a happy terrier.
I prefer my man with hair:) I think if a man shaves so be it though it's his body let him shave whatever he wants.
Braun 'lectric. Got gazillions of blades, no poofta cream required.
What about these people who shave their eye brows then paint them on? What's up with that? Then they rub them and they have them smeared all over their face. My ex's mom does that. Half the time her eye brows are on her cheek.
