Satire is generally funny, Karra. Keep trying though...I'm sure you'll get it eventually.
US judges have the same law-making abilities as Canadian judges...none. They do not and cannot make laws and must have reasons for their rulings. What they can do, in both cases, is interpret laws and decide if they meet the standards of the constitution. The game of appointing judges to the respective supreme courts, and they are appointed in both countries, is largely one of trying to guess which way they will rule on specific laws and appointing judges who will be friendly to your causes.
George Bush Sr. was so good at that game that the guys he appointed returned the favour by appointing George Bush Jr. President.
there is a difference between being married under the Law and under God. I'm not religious at all so while i believe homosexuals should have the same rights and protections under the Law, i don't agree with forcing Churches to marry a gay couple. Who am i to believe that.

Yeah, whatever karra. You might try actually thinking once in a while...the humour in most satire comes from it being intelligent.
The government is involved in marriage because there are laws governing benefits and so on. There are also people of no particular religion, or of disparate religions, that wish to get married. The government provides a way for them to do that. The government has also been clear that churches will not be forced to marry gay couples.
The opposition to gay marriage comes from people who have a lot of difficulty recognising the separation of church and state.
[quote="karraThe state should get out of the business of marriage period. Let the various churches make their own decision.[/quote]
Due to the legal benefits that accrue to "married" couples, the government can't get completely out of marriage. What it can do is create the concept of a "civil union", which applies to both heterosexual and homosexual couples. The government would be required to provide individuals who can perform civil union ceremonies for those who are not affliated with any religion or otherwise do not wish their ceremony to be religious.
If the government were to do this, then the term "marriage" would become strictly a religious one.
I dont see why the word marriage should only be used by the church, the word and idea of marriage has evolved over time, marrige is not about god anymore im afriad, its about love.
The problem with the whole issue is that you are tramping on civil rights. What if two atheists want to get married? well they cant cause they dont beleive in God? NO. They can as long as they arent gay. The issue is still very heated. you have people who are religious saying no you cant get married its against my relegion. Well what if it isnt against their relegion? Then you just forced your beleifs on somone who doesnt want them. That is wrong. Yet it continues to happen because society says being gay is wrong because I goto this church and they say so. I'm catholic but I dont force the rosery on people.
I say let them get married and let them have the rights of married people if thats what they want. Religious people can say they arent married and damn them to hell thats fine. We dont judge them to hell anyway, God does. I think thats a part of the bible some people forget to read or choose to ignore.
Remember that not too long ago black people weren't people either and had no rights. Society adjusted and now it is as it should be. So why is this any different for peole?
This is true. I think there is something wrong with your profile. you keep posting about the last person. lol.
But that is true. you cant say its santioned by God anymore because atheists get pissed off. its only holy for those who want it to be.
Things are thickening in the thicket as George threatens to amend the constitution. Boy, he must really have a bug or something up his ass.
I think he is trying to keep things from going up his ass.
Thats why he is so adament about gay marriage.
Going to the chapel and I'm gonna . . . .
Anyone see these fine folks swishing and swaying on the steps of City Hall in San Fran (think it was there) on the news last night?
If it wasn't such a serious issue why, I'd have to say they were all so cute, and such lovely voices too!
It's enough to make one proud to be American.
Or Canadian, no?
"Just how, exactly, does it harm one little hair on your head? How does it hurt you or your family? How has your safety been threatened by gay marriage?
Oh, or maybe you just dont like it?"
Thats right, I dont like it. Humans are ment and designed to reproduce. two males cant do that can they. im alright with female gay's because they can still reproduce and have born into the familly + girls woh arent gay act kind of gay sometimes anyway. Plus someones ass is not a clean place... I think its absolutely disgusting than someone would actually stick their banana into someones place where the sun dont shine.... You know that brown, smelly, gross looking stuff filled with bacteria does come from that place.
It's gross.
