I have been busy this whole weekend. On Friday I had to stay at work(KFC) with the other employees until midnight mopping up sewage, which waqs caused by a backup in the toilet. Our boss would not let us leave. She called in the plumber at 10:00 at night. The sewage completely flooded the bathrooms and seeped into the kitchen/cooking area and the walk in fridge where the chicken is stored, luckily none of the chicken was on the ground.I was working the till that day so I was stuck mopping the bathrooms. We had to keep mopping all day so the sewage wouln't seep into the dining area where the customers ate.On Saturday I had to work 12 hours straight cuz someone quit without notice, and now today (Sunday), I have to work 11:00-2:00 at the till and then I have to come in at 5:00 pm today to cook until 10:00pm.I am only going to have Tuesday off this week and I only had Tuesday off last week as well.I better be getting paid overtime. My boss can be a real B****.

I am just venting cuz now I am very tired and cranky.

About fucking time we got one of these "Work Fucking Sucks Ass " threads going cause "Work Fucking Sucks Ass"

Wouldn't that be a health issue with the sewage? Which KFC is it so I know not to go there!

Erinites @ Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:12 am

OOOOOOOOoooo this soo goes against health codes and regulations...

You are apparently a dedicated employee... all it takes is one customer to put in a complaint...(SUBTLE HINT)

Retail/hospitality OT kicks in after 44 hours....or you can take 'Lieu" days"

Work to rule... "No pay NO stay".

Didn't the conservatives raise that to 60 hours. I am pretty sure that legislation was passed ; I am not sure if McGinty repealed it though. Of course this is applicable to Ontario.

How in the world are you going to get your homework done and stay awake in school? I remember doing the same when I was in school, I worked MacDonalds, and I fell asleep all the time. Apparently I didn't miss that much though. ;-) One thing that took me a long time to figure out is, unless they have applicants lining up at the door, you have more power than you think you do. Especially if you can both cook and work the till and do a lot of different stuff. You can probably get away with dictating your schedule a little more, and telling them when you will and won't work all those extra hours. The chances that they would fire you for saying "I'll come in at 5 to cook today, but sorry, then I need Wednesday off after all the extra I did over the last week" is small. You're in charge of your schedule. Now, there is always a small chance they'd dismiss you. But I found it was worth the risk for the sanity of having some control over my life, and they never fired me. OTOH, the extra money is nice. Good luck, and I am avoiding every KFC in AB... ;-)

You gotta drop the McJobs and get out there into the oilpatch. Good money to be made and they're always looking for more people.

Labour laws... unless stipulated otherwise..In writing meaning contract.
OT happens after 44 hours in previously mentioned industries.
If you are hired on as part time in said previously mentioned industries....all that is applicable In "full time employment" Terms becomes "moot".
After 44 hours if OT is not an option due to company policies, well hell, then we are discussing serious rescheduling..
"NO PAY, NO STAY"
I live it!

Retail and hospitality are industries which take advantage of LOYALTY,HARD WORK and DEDICATION.

How can she do that while still in high school?

Every company in every industry takes advantage of these virtues.....Some reward it, and some just take advantage. Look at their turn around rate to get a fair indication of what type of company they are.

She should drop-out. Schools are over-crowded and they don't prepare you for the real world anyway. All our school system does is make you an ideal employee in some mind-numbing job that requires little imagination or ambition.

Tman1 @ Sun Sep 25, 2005 4:40 pm

You can if you have connections, presumably from friends and family. Other than that no. Most jobs require a high school education and nowadays post-secondary education.

Ah.... but can you find a good job in the patch without your grade 12?

I don't see why not. What do you learn in Grade 12 that could help you out in "the patch"?
