My Take: Jesus would believe in evolution.
I really don't believe that Christianity made the world a better place. Any progress that we've made would've happened with or without it.
So the Church didn't preserve knowledge after the fall of Rome, or play a role in establishing universities throughout Europe? Who else would have filled this role seeing the clerics were the only folk who were literate?

I'm always amazed that Jesus is almost always depicted looking like a 1970's rock star. Ted Neeley does look like so many pictures of Jesus, that was good casting, but Jesus has been depicted that way long before 1973. Hu, I wonder if Jesus can play Smoke on the Water.....

Anyone can play smoke on the water....I thought Jesus made wine out of water....thats pretty cool though!!!!
There is some great music and some truly amazing singing in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Even if one is not a believer in the message, the singing alone will blow you away.
Ya It was a pretty awesome musical thats for sure...agree totally

I think it's fairly safe to say that Jesus and the growth of Christianity had quite an impact on the world.

Face it. The Jesus myth is a relic of times of human sacrifice. God has to sacrifice his son to appease Himself. Sure you have to genuinely ask for forgiveness, you don't need anybody sacrificing himself to do that for you.
It all doesn't make sense as written. God creates us to be the way we are, his omniscience should tell him what will happen, but he does it anyway, then claim it's out of his hands. If it is, we are not part of God.

An Asshole, Drama Queen, and Attention Whore. That is the God of the Bible.
Technically it's asshole, drama 'king' and attention whore.
But one could also add jealous, intolerant, narrow minded, obtuse and murderous.

Well considering it was the church that undermined Rome which led to its fall i think giving the church 'credit' for all of that 'universities' across europe, which of course common people weren't allowed to enter much less read the books there is akin to praising the thief for a successful robbery.
Wasn't it the Muslims who preserved Greek knowledge through the dark ages?

They didn't just preserve but added to it. There's a reason we use Arabic numerals for our maths.

Agreed. And also, it's not like the idea of God, sin, guilt and atonement didn't exist before Jesus supposedly came along.
It's not like Jesus changed the world either... we still suck in the exact same way. Gandhi... now there's someone who made a difference.
Somewhere along the way, pre-hominid perhaps, humans have looked for a god to explain things he didn't understand and perhaps provide comfort when things got bad. Not so bad when you look at from this perspective but when you think of religion today it seems a little backward.
Some recently historic religious figures such as Ghandi, Georges Lemaitre, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Mathew Fox to mention a few who come to mind. Outstanding individuals.
Then you have Jimmy Swaggert etc.

And thankfully nothing else for the past 1200 years.

Why thankfully. You don't think it would have been better if the Muslims had also advanced like we did?
