DrCaleb DrCaleb:
He went to the Hotel he was staying at yesterday to check out and pay the bill, himself.

The more I hear about this guy, the more I like him.

Well there was a small argument about the mini-bar bill.

I find it interesting that so many here - who either have a hate on for the Catholic Church(AKA kiddy diddlers) and others who are atheists are so fascinated by this.

Frankly, I didn't really care who they picked - just like I don't care who is Grand Poobah in Islam or who is the head of the Anglican Church.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
I just hope I don't have to hear "conclave" for at least 10 years.

Hear, hear! R=UP

I suspect it's because we're watching history unfold. First non European pope is a big thing.

I agree. It's just as "interesting" as who the President of the US is.

Meh. Arguably they picked an Italian.

I might be a Militant Agnostic, but I still pay attentiont to current events.

Just like I think not all Police are Vancouver Airport cops, I don't think all Catholic Priests are kiddie diddlers. Some Prients I've met have been excellent people.

One of my criticisms of Religion, and Christians in general has been that many do not seem to live the moral code their religion shows them. From what I've heard so far, Pope Francis does seem to be one of the few who does live the way Christ has taught him.

He could live in luxury, have a chef prepare his meals, take limo around town, buy lots of gold trinkets... instead he lives in a modest apartment that he shares with another priest. He cooks his own meals, he takes public transport, he eats in blue collar 'greasy spoon' restaraunts. He does not adorn himself with wealth.

$1:
Matthew 6:24-25 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Probably made choosing the first South American Pope a lot easier to do, then.

And the secular humanists hate him for it.

Okay, so there's now white smoke coming from the Mexican restaurant across the street. Does this mean they've hired a new cook?

Because Francis believes according to his Catholic faith and that means he opposes abortion, he opposes the use of birth control, and he opposes euthanasia. He's also not very patient with Catholics who support those things as he has said in the past that such people should be denied communion.

hopefully he also opposes corruption...poverty...pedophiles...privilege..

He does. He's a Jesuit. I think that's the most significant aspect of his selection as Pope is his history as a Jesuit.

The miscreants in the church can expect themselves to be shown the door with this guy at the helm.

I'd expect him to go after the schismatics, the feminist convents, the closeted homosexuals, and the pederasts.

In the first group, the schismatics, I expect someone who will experience some pressure will be Mel Gibson with his own, special corner of Catholicism. He'll also be expected to crack down on the 'Mary Cult' within the Church.

Does he actually ask these questions to everybody before he gives them communion?
