As a reformed Catholic who has nothing but disdain for the inflexibility, closed mindedness and irrelevancy of all organized religion, I just hope he's a leader who will help some people who really need it during his tenure. His religious beliefs and belief of what the Catholic church is or should be are meaningless to me.

hopefully he also opposes corruption...poverty...pedophiles...privilege..
He does. He's a
Jesuit. I think that's the most significant aspect of his selection as Pope is his history as a Jesuit.
The miscreants in the church can expect themselves to be shown the door with this guy at the helm.
I'd expect him to go after the schismatics, the feminist convents, the closeted homosexuals, and the pederasts.
In the first group, the schismatics, I expect someone who will experience some pressure will be Mel Gibson with his own, special corner of Catholicism. He'll also be expected to crack down on the 'Mary Cult' within the Church.
The Jesuits have been accused of being crypto Jews in the past

That's just crap that's been cooked up by hateful Holocaust deniers. The Society of Jesus saw over 150 of their ordained members martyr themselves saving Jews from the Holocaust and the haters are just sore because some Jews got saved.

Because Francis believes according to his Catholic faith and that means he opposes abortion, he opposes the use of birth control, and he opposes euthanasia. He's also not very patient with Catholics who support those things as he has said in the past that such people should be denied communion.
Does he actually ask these questions to everybody before he gives them communion?

No, but he maintains that if a Catholic politician, actor, or other celebrity should pronounce on these matters contrary to doctrine then those people should be denied communion.
I agree.
If you want to call yourself a Catholic then
be a Catholic. Ditto that with calling yourself anything else.
For instance, if you want to call yourself a Canadian then don't call the CAF for help when your jihadi buddies in Yemen or etc. decide they'd like to kill you.
The accusation predated the Holocaust by a few centuries...even during the 18th century other rival orders in the Church were calling for the order to be dissolved and the members declared heretics. The Jesuits dabbled in science and had some 'liberal'(aka controversial) leanings

In that case, there are probably VERY few Catholics around. Also means that the day the Church says birth control, abortion or euthanasia is OK, every Catholic that wants to remain Catholic has to agree.
I've seen more understanding Fascists.

I am not worried about Pope Francis being a secret liberal Jew.
From today's news:
$1:
So when the appearance of a disgraced cardinal threatened to cast a shadow over his first engagement, Francis I made sure it couldn’t happen again – by banning him from his own church.
Cardinal Bernard Law resigned as Archbishop of Boston in 2002, after being accused of actively covering up for a litany of paedophile priests.’
Despite the scandal which exploded to engulf the entire church, he was given an honorary position at the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, in Rome.
Though now retired, the cardinal still enjoys a grace and favour apartment in the cathedral complex.
So hearing that the new Pope was offering prayers at the very same church, it seems he couldn’t resist a discreet peak.
But when Pope Francis recognised him, he immediately ordered that Law be removed, according to Italian media reports. He went on to command: ‘He is not to come to this church any more.’
One of the new Pope’s first acts will be to arrange new ‘cloistered’ accommodation for the disgraced cardinal, the Italian daily, Il Fatto Quotidiano, reported.
In the RCC a mandatory cloister is the same as imprisonment.

Those who do not like it can leave. Simple as that. But asking the RCC to change to suit the ever-shifting sands of political correctness is a fool's errand.

So we shouldn't complain and try to change Islam either... they're just doing their thing, too.

Good start then if this was the first thing the new guy did, even if what Law and the rest truly deserved was a couple of decades in maximum security for what they did.

So long as they do it in their own countries and then only to people who wish to be muslims then I really don't care.

I think Mr. Law will come to wish he'd been sent to a regular prison where he'd have some hope for eventual freedom. The cloister means six days a week of dawn-to-dusk silent labor and then one day of dawn-to-dusk prayerful penitence and fasting. This will continue for the rest of Mr. Law's natural life.

Never said he was either I was just pointing out that this is some of the crap that the Jesuit Order has had to put up.... with even from other Catholics. If he tries to institute change he's going to have a hard battle. Look what happened to JP1 when he tried rocking the boat.

So the Pope is the boss of all Catholics, no matter in what country they live, but it doesn't work that way for Muslims.
I have another observation... I guess that there are NO Catholic pharmacists, with all those birth control pills and condoms hanging around. Unless there are actually pharmacies that don't sell these things... I don't know, maybe there are.
