Wiccan priest called to perform rituals for B.C. prison inmates
$1:
VANCOUVER - Canada's federal prison agency is looking to hire a priest or priestess who will deliver spiritual services for inmates who practise witchcraft.
Corrections Canada has put out a request for a proposal for a Wiccan chaplain in B.C. to provide about 17 hours of service a month, about an hour less service than Corrections says it needs for the Jewish faith.
The job description involves counselling and creating a sanctuary in the prison chapel, which Wiccan Priestess Meredith Kimber says would likely contain a pentacle, sage and candles.
The chosen candidate is also expected to lead Wiccan services, including rituals and hold regular services for holy days, something Kimber says would include ceremonies that invoke the gods and involve casting spells.
Kimber, a priestess at the Temple of the Green Cauldron in Nanaimo, says she's thrilled the government has recognized a need for Wiccan services within prisons, noting there must be enough demand.
Four government-recognized Wiccan temples operate in the B.C. and Kimber says practitioners don't often go public with their beliefs but her temple reaches about 600 people via email alone.

Right, let's now bring in a Qadi so the Muslims can practise their Sharia laws while in the can....
Yes, and let's set all the christian prisoners free so they can go on a mission!!!
Or we cuold just see this as an innocent excersise of freedom of religion in a place that has very few freedoms. Seriously, if you can get upset over this you're trying waaay too hard.

I agree with your agree. Does that make any sense?
I don't see the problem. If your country is going to provide religious guidance to inmates then include the Wiccans if you've got Wiccan inmates. Ditto for Zorastrians, Rastafarians, etc.

Agreed! I would think there are other things in this world to have a fit about other than inmates getting spiritual guidance.

Isn't a loss of freedoms part of the plan in prison?

Why is that important?
There are many inmates who have suddenly "found God" and "are a different person now" compared to who they were when they did what they did. Why is that fine, but ANY other religion is not?
That is plain bullshit and discriminatory.
