An eye for an eye leaves us all blind.
While I am very sympathetic to this woman, I cannot even begin to fathom how any civilized country could even consider mutilating people as a form of state sanctioned punishment. Surely we are better than that.
I agree. While I believe that bastard deserves his fate I can't imagine a society with true "eye for an eye justice". I sure don't want that in Canada.
Perhaps if more women chose this punishment men might think twice about doing this.
"I don't want to blind him for revenge," Bahrami said in her parents' Tehran apartment. "I'm doing this to prevent it from happening to someone else."
I vote with 'the eyes'. I agree with her reasoning. Too much of this sort of shit going on everywhere.
I don't think I would think of asking an eye for an eye but after reading the story I believe in this one case the man needs something more than Western punishment, don't think anything else will make him understand just what he has done to this poor woman.

I wonder if transplant would be an option.
If "eye for an eye" worked, there wouldn't be any murders. I'm all for it as PUNISHMENT, but call it what it is. There is no DETERENCE achieved by this.
And Gandhi is spinning in his grave...
Spinning in his urn? Or did his ashes get sprinkled or something? In which case he's probably used to being blown about anyway.
