Hockey isn't dead though just because the NHL says it is. There's still the AHL and CHL that have great games. Everyone was talking about the World Juniors and how great they are, they came from the CHL (WHL was a huge chunk). And I think Sportsnet even broadcasts AHL games, so you can still watch some on TV, otherwise you gots to go old school and turn on your radio and listen to you local junior clubs. It's still good hockey and you're probably not gonna have to pay $6 for a beer.

Any alternative to the NHL is going to have cheaper prices and better sightlines-not a bad trade-off!

Last I heard Goodenough is now telling all the players that the season is over and that they should go to Europe and get any work they can-more ordinary joes gonna get thrown out of work by these spoiled primadonnas! :x

Like I said in September, screw the NHL and support your local junior teams. I've got a WHL teams fairly close to me, the Prince George Cougars, and I have the Quesnel Millionaires from the BCHL. Been fun watching the juniors play, and the NHL just wishes they played as well or with as much heart as our juniors did at the worlds........ [flag]

So now that, shy of a miracle, the NHL season is over how do you all feel about the Stanley Cup being awarded to another league?
I hear there is a group petitioning this and I am behind this. Wasn't the Stanley cup NOT awarded to the NHL's winner in it's early years? Maybe this needs to be brought up. I just feel that the 'empty space' of the 2004/2005 season would be a painful indicator of what has transpired.

It wouldn't be the first year missed on the Cup, but the reasons this time would be much less than the last couple (war and illness I believe). But I think it's a pretty cool idea to let others challenge for the Cup. It was supposed to be an amateur trophy after all. The only problem is, do you let Junior leauges like the CHL or AHL compete when they already have a trophy to award or do you set it up so that only like Senior Men's teams from across Canada can compete for it.

Bonglord @ Mon Jan 17, 2005 5:03 pm

I think the Stanley Cup should be sent north up here where it BELONGS.

Streaker @ Mon Jan 17, 2005 10:54 pm

I see no reason why the NHL should hold the Cup hostage. If the NHL can't get its shit together then the Cup should be awarded to the best team actually playing hockey.

Streaker @ Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:04 pm

Just wondering: who the hell legally owns the Cup anyways? I always assumed that it must be the Canadian People, through the federal government. If not, then does that mean that the NHL has legal title to the Cup? I want to puke at the thought that the NHL actually owns the Cup..... :x

Atreyu @ Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:11 pm

Screw the yanks!! :!: Bring the cup home where it belongs. Don't get me started on wut te blasted yanks have stolen frae uz !!
