A guilty verdict by a Philadelphia jury against a Canadian businessman charged with violating the Cuban trade embargo could lead to an international dispute between the United States and Canada over trade relations with the communist-ruled nation, according to foreign trade experts.

Oh really Bart? Maybe you should check your facts before you open your mouth. Oh, right the blue C means that facts have no relivance when you form an opinion.

Oh really....

$1:
''Exports from Canada to Cuba are permitted under Canadian law,'' said Rodney Moore, a spokesman for the Canadian Embassy in Washington.

$1:
Cuba is Canada's largest trading partner in the Caribbean, with imports and exports between both countries estimated at more than $435 million a year.

Seems like a blue C is necessary to form an opinion.

The US trade embargo has been a hnady excuse for the fifty years of failures of Cuban communism and, quite frankly, the end of the embargo may well bring about the end of the Castro regime. See, without the USA as a handy scapegoat for Cuban failures the people will start asking their leaders why their nation is such a pathetic waste.

$1:
The estimated population of the United States is 307,053,875
so each citizen's share of this debt is $38,834.72.

Again, don't let facts influence you. If you want to measure your success by the amount of debt you can accumulate then you win. If you want to measure success by doing the most with the least than Cuba looks pretty good.

I guess you would be welcome with open arms there, heaping praise on a society that has next to nothing.

Actually Bart said "The embargo is only with the USA. Obviously, no one in the USA is preventing Canadians or anyone else in the world from trading with or traveling to Cuba."

And it looks to me like someone might be trying to prevent Canadians from trading with Cuba.

But I know blue C's in a group tend to go full retard and forget about the facts and the topic so I'll let this one slide Plug.

Ya, next to nothing yet enjoy the same standard of health care as the average American.

Americans should ask why their poor neighbours have lower infant mortality and lower rates of many diseases than Americans. For PENNIES on the dollar.

Like I said Donnie, they would welcome you there with open arms as you state the party line how life in Cuba is so much better than the US. I base my desirabilty of places to live by the amount of people trying to get into a country, and Cuba doesn't seem to be too high on potential immigrants list of desirable countries.

Donny_Brasco @ Tue Oct 06, 2009 7:00 pm

It is not about being better. It is about providing the best with what you have.

I think my American friends deserve better healthcare. I use Cuba as an example because I know that for the money that Americans spend, they deserve better than what they have.

Conservatives seem to think that improving the average person’s life is evil and/or socialist and/or communist.

I think that improving people’s general health leads to a happier more productive population.

We do? How do you arrive at that conclusion.

So communist Cuba has improved the average persons life, don't think so.

PR, he doesn't understand that the basic of capitalism is about improving everybody's life... Most socialists come from bourgeois family and do not understand why they have their life so good.

So why is the richest country in the world #38 when it comes to life expectancy?

Givens:
1) USA residents pay most per capita for healthcare in the world
2) It is claimed that the USA has the most advanced medical systems
3) It is claimed that the USA has the best doctors
4) It is claimed that the USA has the highest paid doctors
5) It is claimed that most medical breakthroughs occur in the US.

What is the excuse for such a mediocre system when, all things considered, Americans should be the healthiest people on the planet?

Apollo @ Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:26 pm

The problem is not a Canadian doing business in Cuba. It was a Canadian exporting US goods into Cuba. Important parts you seemed to have missed.......

Cuba is Canada's largest trading partner in the Caribbean, with imports and exports between both countries estimated at more than $435 million a year.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Poluka said the ''document-intensive case'' involving some 25,000 pieces of paperwork has nothing to do with Canada's commerce with Cuba.

''There is no dispute that the man is a Canadian citizen,'' Poluka said. "The indictment doesn't allege that they did anything wrong by going to Cuba. The problem is they had to come here for the products. This case is about commerce between the United States and Cuba. These men not only broke the law, but they conspired to break it.''

Are you not splitting hairs here? It's not like the difference between 1st and 38th is 25 years. It's something like a one or two year difference.

Probably because when you have the excesses of a successful country, people live to excess and die from overeating and not malnutrition I would guess.
