Not at all. Poor people in the US and Canada enjoy a standard of living that far exceeds what 'rich' people of 200 years ago enjoyed.
"Poor" people today have access to clean water, safe food, public transportation, and clothing that RICH people of 200 years ago would've been willing to surrender all their wealth to obtain. The WORST healthcare available for poor people today is still lightyears better than what the British Royal Family enjoyed just 100 years ago.
The chart here reflects this fact that poor people today are, in real terms, richer than the rich people of the past.
The capitalist system has made inexpensive access to consumer goods and food so cheap that poor people in North America are affluent compared to even the middle class in places such as Indonesia, Communist China, Africa, and Central America.
The main problem that (relatively) poor people have now is ENVY which is fueled by the class-warfare rhetoric of (ironically) rich liberals who use the poor as tools to obtain political power.
Example: "The Republicans are the party of the RICH!"
Nice. How often do we hear this pabulum in the USA?
Yet with the Republicans holding majorities in both houses of Congress which party STILL has more millionaires?
Better yet, which party STILL has more billionaires?
Avro clearly recognizes this fact and supports it with his arguments.
