Obama to unveil gun violence measures
commanderkai commanderkai:
*Shrugs* Anti-bullying provisions are generally bullshit, as teachers and school administrators rarely enforce already existing anti-bullying rules. I was quite harassed in both Canadian and American elementary/high schools by other students on account of my psoriasis, and it only stopped the moment I realized I needed to stand up to such individuals through...well punching a few people in the face. It's really no different compared to drug laws. Sure they're great, but if police don't enforce them, they're not very useful.
The same experience here. The bullying only stopped when I started inflicting harm on my tormentors who then moved on to more cooperative victims.
One of the kids I got to church with has spent over a year learning military Krav Maga and close combat techniques in order to be better able to deal with his tormentors and these days he gets left alone.
Talking to such thugs is pointless and it only encourages them.

Now let's see if the anti-bullying provisions get gutted in committee like they always do.
What else do you swing both ways on, Bart? Surely you shouldn't care what happens to those anti-bullying provisions?

I never really inflicted much harm, admittedly. Thankfully I was able to get away with things since teachers did know and appreciate the shit I was going through, compared to some of the asswipes I dealt with. In grade 8, one kid got on my nerves so much, I literally was about to use a wooden stool as a club, and the teacher told the kid to get out of the class before I murdered him. I think the teacher knew I wouldn't go that far, but it was around grade 6 on that I just used some force to keep things in line. Being extremely tall and bulky over my classmates was a nice advantage too, which I was thankful for. If I was a 5'5 scrawny runt, I'd probably have more issues than just some social awkwardness in groups.
Andy, I don't think Bart was cheering for the gutting of such provisions, more just being a cynical observation of what happens. I'm hugely cynical over the effectiveness of any provision if enforcement isn't there.

Baby steps Thanos, baby steps, something is better than nothing. You know the saying. It takes hitting rock bottom before you can start moving up again...or something along those lines.
Over 900 Americans have died from gun-related violence since the Newtown atrocity. None of these minor rule changes, that the NRA bastards are now busily equating with the Nuremburg Laws, will make the slightest bit of difference. Forget all about what types of weapons should be allowable or magazine sizes or any of the rest of that trivial crap. If there can't even be agreement or consensus that some individuals are so dangerous that they should never be allowed to possess firearms then even having the conversation is pointless.
Emptying an ocean of poison one thimble-full at a time? Sorry, most of us have got better things to do.

We bleep out swear words, we blur out nipples, we can't have kids buy cigarettes or booze (cigarettes are even behind closed doors) but it is fine to bring kids to gun stores and gun shows.

Nope. A bastard

Why the fear of use of swear words when kids and guns are ok?

And I repeat
IMO legitimate, sensible and responsible gun owners are the ones who are willing to talk about gun control and come to reasonable solutions and not go bat shit crazy at even the mention of the word gun control and associate everyone who does as either slaves or someone who does not love their children and that in this case that the country is going to turn into Nazi Germany.
And I think this also deserves a repeat in context to the quoted post
Jon Stewart "So this is what it is, their paranoid fear of a possible dystopic future, prevents us from addressing our actual dystopic present. We can't even begin to address 30,000 gun deaths, that are actually, in reality happening in this country every year because
a few of us must remain vigilant against the rise of an imaginary Hitler"

And kids can drive in a car, or go into a hardware store too.
Most of the things there are dangerous, and kids need to know how to use them properly so that they are safe.

Hmmm. My Ex's grandfather actually went to some of Hitlers speeches. I don't recall him saying it was his imagination.

Exactly. Bringing a kid to a gun store or a gun show won't make a kid suddenly become violent, no more would bringing a kid to an LCBO will turn him into an alcoholic, or bringing a kid into a pharmacy will turn the child into an abuser of painkillers or cough syrup.
You were dating a Nazi !

In my opinion, legitimate, sensible, and responsible gun owners should not be punished for crimes committed by other people and that any reasonable solutions or proposed gun controls should take this principle into account.
Because taking away my gun to prevent crime is like taking away your religion to prevent another 9/11.
