I'm struggling to even think of a rationale for this other than abject cruelty for cruelty's sake.
Because they are illegals and don't deserve legal rights?
I think it's just cruelty. How can you justify not hydrating in a heat wave? Especially with so many people having no electricity after massive thunderstorms.
This makes absolutely no sense. How can companies not allow workers to have breaks, especially under extreme circumstances?

Because it cuts into profit, and there are hundreds of imaginary people crossing the border every day to replace them if they don't like it.
You can see the result of policies like these as the rotting produce in the fields of Florida.
See the part where they say that more than half of the people who died from heat related deaths were "non residents"? That is a nice way of saying illegal immigrant. You see the part where the Webb county medical examiner was holding the bodies of 260 illegal immigrants and had stopped accepting new bodies? They get lost in the middle of nowhere in extreme heat.
Here we have 51 of those 279 people from last year killed in a single incident. Abandoned in a trailer. It happens all the time. This has nothing to do with the Governor.
Unfortunately Bill and RFK Jr have been pals for a long time. And anti-vaxx and other medical silliness has always been Maher's major Achilles heel. He's been in limousine-liberal California too long for his own good and soaked up too many kooky ideas from the "holistic" part of the left. He's far from being QAnon or a Trump flake, obviously, but when it comes to health & medicine he's way off the reservation. It's not Dr. Maher any more than it is Dr. Alex Jones when it comes to infectious diseases so he really needs to stop dishing out or promoting alt-silliness when he hasn't the credentials for it.

No shit, his tirades that Covid deaths were due to being fat was a dead giveaway. Also his constant insistence that he's a Democrat, but only points out their failings, buying into the MAGA bullshit that 'wokeness' is leftism and THE most important issue in the USA. I'd love to be on his show, look him right in the eye and say "What the hell are you talking about? You don't have a left wing party in the US"
Maher voting Democrat all the time is proof that he's a Democrat. So too with when he does things like donate a million dollars to a presidential campaign, like he did for Obama. He doesn't have to do anything else to prove his bona fides. And group-think isn't mandatory for membership, at least not in a group worth belonging to. Woke hive-mind is the bane of the Democrats. It costs them elections. And Maher telling them to knock it off with the performative SJW routine is something they should follow. MSNBC or an atrocity of a show like The View with those nauseatingly self-righteous & pretentious Hollywood bitches are where the Dems have to go for unquestioning approval and seal-like applause from the hosts because Real Time is where some hard questions get asked of them sometimes.
His COVID stuff was nuts though. Like you said, with his "mostly fat people died" crap. Really? Were they just fat, or were they smokers as well? Because fatness by itself doesn't cause the sort of respiratory damage that something like COVID could exploit. How about alcoholics being mowed down by COVID, because the stress that excessive alcohol use over the years can cause to the heart certainly affects the lungs down the line. I think that Bill avoided this altogether because he's both a smoker (pot anyway) and a drinker, so it's not like he's going to want to hold his own habits up for examination any more than any other holier-than-thou type ever does.
I'll stick with Bill because on most things he's far more correct than he is wrong. But on medical/health issues? Nah. I'll just give him the eye-roll and go "that's nice, dear" when he starts tripping too much on the typically Californian holistic organic Whole Foods warrior bullshit routine.

it was painfully obvious during that interview that while both of them said they follow 'science', neither of them understand 'science'. Millions who died from COVID also ate tomatoes in the past months. Children who die from pertussis before the age when they can be vaccinated, also ate mushy peas. Co-incidence is not causality!
Vaccines are not tested for efficacy in double blind studies because we know their effectiveness, and subjecting people to the known effects of the diseases is amoral. That is Joseph Menglea stuff.
Too many people who claim to follow Science seem to not know how it works.
Thanos Thanos:

I too like many of the things he says and the causes he supports. But like everyone else, I will continue to ask if their credentials match the expertise they are claiming to present. And he is obviously not a medical professional, even though some of the causes he supports involve medicine.
It's weird that Maher has shown that he's generally willing to change his mind on certain things when new evidence presents itself. But on health & medicine he's more than willing to die on the hill of anti-vax and other stupid alt-health nonsense. Yeah, so Big Pharma, Big Medicine, Big Insurance pulls in a couple of trillion dollars per year. How much does Big Alt-Health make off of peddling things that are either entirely fake, potentially dangerous, useful only as a supplemental preventative for an already healthy person to take, or entirely worthless to someone who's already sick? I haven't seen one of the holistic Earth Mother worshipper types pushing these things do it for free, and combined they're obviously raking in hundreds of billions of dollars per year in the US alone.
