Hand coded umpteen fairly complex websites with PHP 4 back in the day.
I was impressed with my skills until all of a sudden the=y were full of errors with PHP5.

Once I sweated my way thru fixing those, I just went fuckit and made all sites with Joomla... until it got hacked every 60 seconds.
Wordpress ever since. Keep db backups & watch for the update notices. Leave the grunt work to them.
My last PhpBB3 experiment was a couple gas sites. After heavy promotion on GasBuddy and using up all the freebee Google ad coupons I got like four users. My umpteenth forum failure since like 1998. Anyone want to buy gastalk.net or gastalk.ca cheap?

Now firefox doesn't work (won't allow me to log into an unsecured site) but the other browsers do. Image

Oh well, progress!

It IS a secured site. Look up https://canadaka.net in your URL bar. I use Firefox always.
You may have hit it when the SSL certificate was expiring/renewing

You can always click the link in the warning and pick Visit Site Anyway if you know it's a safe site.
Got tired of all the messages on my sites whenever my certificates expired and I hadn't got to renewing them and shelled out the $99 for the hosting company to do it for me. It still happens for maybe an hour or so on some of them when they do it.
Hold the CTRL key and click the Refresh icon to clear it from your cache and load it fresh, the warning page could also be stuck in your computer.

The main page is https, but the forum redirect is not. It also breaks Firefox when I try to run the forums in https, which may be the problem Scape is experiencing.

Weird. I always go to canadaka.net and click Posts since last visit.

Used to go right to there logged in automatically, but have had nothing but problems with that for over a year.
Wouldn't be logged in, then once I did, I'd be instantly logged right back out unless I went to the main page and logged in there. Didn't say anything as I found a solution.

Now an SSL certificate is for a whole site, identifies that site is on that server. Is the forum on a different server than the main page?

herbie @ Sun Jul 09, 2023 5:59 pm

Odd
both come back as https with the lock icon on both Firefox and Edge when I try...

I always get the forums in http.

I think forums are a different webserver instance.

herbie @ Fri Jul 14, 2023 4:48 pm

okay I've been getting that now...
problems with the css not loading, stuff scattered all over the page and not loading properly.
The lock item displaying not secure - I'd set FFox to load it anyways long ago.

So having said that using just {canadaka.net/forums} then logging in and going to Posts Since Last Visit sometimes logs me right back out again.. sometimes I have to go to the front page and log in there to stay logged in.

I have no issues on a couple PCs, but on one I have to go to the forums and then hit the 'login' at the top for it to work right. I don't have to enter my credentials either time though.

Jeez, just came back after dinner and I was logged out, total PITA to log back in.
All these problems on my desktop PC, I've seen none on the Mac or iPad

So what's the deal with the page of "click "allow" to prove you're not a robot" crap happening here now? BTW, even with the adblocker set to off no "allow" icon or box even shows up on that page.

DrCaleb @ Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:02 pm

I'm not getting any kaptchas? [huh]

When are you seeing those?

Thanos @ Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:37 pm

It happened when I opened the CKA Forum main page. I wasn't logged in and after a second or so of the threads list page 1 being visible it went straight to the robot/allow page. It wasn't an official captcha page either, more like a sudden old-style re-direct. It's not doing it while I'm logged in, just logged out.

DrCaleb @ Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:51 pm

I logged out, then logged back in. I didn't get anything out of the ordinary, or anything not from CKA.

I don't run scripts from advertising.com or facebook.net (Firefox/NoScript). Are you perhaps getting some page insertion from a random third party?

Thanos @ Sat Jul 15, 2023 8:06 pm

I don't think so. Or, more accurately, I don't know. I did a major cookie clean up recently. And my Microsoft Outlook email account, even though I don't use it at all for anything, is getting spammed like crazy lately with porn invites. Maybe they've deposited something on my computer that's causing fuckey things to happen. Aside from Gmail and YouTube, CKA is the only other site I have right now that I need to log in to.
