When I broadcast in the mornings I can load up on a few hours of tunes but then I won't be able to disconnect for another DJ...

Maybe we should start a quickie poll on the splash page asking people when they would most likely listen to CKA Radio and if they would listen to podcasts of people's shows. Hopefully, from that we could perhaps rearrange schedules to when people would be most likely to tune in.

Blue_Nose @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:17 pm

That's what I did when I did my show... just ask a week in advance when people who are interested are available. It's not worth the time to put it all together if noone is around to listen.... I roughed out my next jazz lounge show last night, and it took me a good hour and a half, and I haven't even picked the order... I enjoy doing it, but I'd like it to be worth something.

Maybe I could play the same show a few times a week, to make sure people get a chance to hear it. It'd help fill in the schedule, too.

MissT @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:21 pm

I think Trev's point about lots of dead time is valid. And I think repeating the shows is a good idea. I'm not often online when people are playing. But I'd like to have listened in if I could. (uh, that's if it was my taste in music.)

Ripcat @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:24 pm

Wow, it takes me 5 minutes to do my playlist. I just play what I feel like listening to because I'm the only one listening.

If I get a listener I know I'll put on something I know they will like.

Blue_Nose @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:27 pm

Well the broadcasts I've been doing lately, yeah, I just plug in a few songs and let er go. But for the Jazz lounge, I'm ripping certain songs off CDs, and trying to get a good order set up with some flow and continuity... takes some time.

So what's your story, Ripcat? I take it you're on the late shift, and play your morning show before you go to bed? I think you should add a few more songs to the playlist and let it run on its own, until around when Bossdog comes on... unless you have to go offline or something.

Ripcat @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:39 pm

That's correct BN and I can do that but I can't disconnect my broadcast until I get up. I can set ShoutCast so it doesn't reconnect after loosing it's connection but all the DJs would need to know how to boot an idle DJ.

I also don't know how often my connection may fail so would it be worth it?

Canadaka @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:56 pm

i have a website url for dj's that will boot off the current dj. so if someone just leaves there music broadcasting its ok, when there is supposed to be another dj on, he can just use this url to boot the current dj off.

PM for the access to the url

Blue_Nose @ Mon May 01, 2006 5:56 pm

Oh... I didn't think booting idle DJs was a big deal...

Canadaka @ Mon May 01, 2006 6:01 pm

well now if there is no one right after me you could just leave your winamp playing random music, until we get a proper automated system

bootlegga @ Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:08 am

Well, when I'm on, I always have my thread (Bootlegged Tunes) open, so that if there is a request, I can do my best to play whatever they ask for. I know Nanza has asked for some foreign language (French/Spanish) music that I've played in the past.

And I've never had a problem booting a DJ, but I usually wait a song ends, to keep some form of continuity.

Other than that, is there some way to advertise CKA radio, maybe something similar to Ping-o-Matic for blogs? I've passed the CKA radio link to my friends and had some of them them listen in once and a while.

Using a longer playlist between DJ's is a good idea, but then you still have the problem of loosing connection, then you would be back to the whole dead-air issue. Now what if the person with the com playing music had someone else in the house or something and decided to use Winamp, or whatever program they're using to broadcast, to say watch a porno or something. Would that com still be broadcasting the whole sounds to the flick? It would be no doubt amussing, but not very family friendly. What if by some chance no one is logged in with the URL for booting off DJ's?

nanza @ Tue Aug 15, 2006 11:13 am

ahhhhhhh....CKA to PORNO eh....that should pull the whole CKA male population in...remember....only 32 listeners at a time.....
