My first computer was a PC my family bought used from a friend.
I really wish we kept it, I had sweet old dos games on it and cool custom DOS menu systems I programmed.
I can't remember 100% what the PC was, but i'm pretty sure it was a:
Tandy 1000 (IBM PC Compatible)
4.77MHz 8088 CPU
128K RAM
MS-DOS 2.11
5.25-inch floppy disk drive
Monochrome monitor
ohhhhh yeaaah
So what was your first computer?
Pong
Atari 600XL. Hoo boy, what a waste of my paper route money......
We had an old 286, that's the earliest I remember.
Mine was an Adept Micro (IBM clone) A 286 with a 16MHz processor (that I upgraded to a 386SX), 2 MB of ram and 20 MB hardrive I later upgraded to a 40.
The first thing I remember seeing was when I moved in with my ex 23 years ago, it was a Commodore 64. He used to play Pong on it. When I moved into my own home years later, I got my parents old 286, when they got a "new" 486 from my dad's work
A PET 32. All that it could handle for games was alien invaders.
C64 then on to an Amiga. Falcon 3.0, what a game!
A Mac LC 580. Bought just before Pentium chips first hit the market and was obsolete in a big hurry. Still, it was great for a 10 y.o. and I learned a lot.
Our first was a custom built (from a small local shop) 386 DX powered computer. This was back when it wasn't abnormal to buy a computer without Windows. Ran on MS-DOS 5.0 (or was it 6.0?) with a Text-based GUI (I can't remember the name of the program).
Oh so long ago. Favourite game from that era was Ultrabots. Anybody old enough to remember Ultrabots?
In 1984... The IBM PC Junior...
Operating system - IBM PC-DOS 2.10
CPU - Intel 8088 @ 4.77 MHz
Memory - 64 KB
No hard drive and 2 5.25 floppy drives
16 color monitor - VGA graphic chip
Even before the PC, I had what was called a pocket computer.
I think it was this one but I'm not 100% sure, the Radio Shack TRS80.
You could program in Basic on this.
I also had the optional printer dock... this was a tracer with 4 pens (colors).
Commodore Vic20. Spent $399 for an extra 4 kilobytes of RAM so it had as much as the PET.
Never did escape that damn Grue.
I still have it, in working condition in my store's "Computer Museum" along with the 64 and my Amigas.
