So, looks like we're currently drafting 9th but the draft lottery is on Tuesday.

The Canucks seem to have dropped down to 10th place. New Jersey is the big winner drafting in the #1 spot.

Yuck. Canuck luck. Who says there's no such thing. 4th time in a row we get pushed back.

Jersey wins the lottery for the second time in 3 years. New York and Chicago win the 2nd and 3rd picks.

The Hockey Gods love the Eastern US this year. I'm thinking they're progs.

I think the HGs are waiting for the weakest draft in history so they can move us up then and get a good laugh.

We need to trick them and never be eligible for the draft again. :rock:

Either there is Canuck Luck or the other theory we often hear is correct. That's the one that says the NHL likes to shaft us.

When we do finally win the cup only the most true blue (and green) of fans can come. We all need to stand up at the final buzzer, turn from the cameras, drop our drawers and hang a giant moon at the NHL from center ice out to goal seats. I'm going to call it "The Canuck Wave TM"

When it comes to Canucks' "luck", in my opinion it all started with the Amateur draft, held on June 11, 1970 in Montreal, there was debate over what expansion team would draft first, Vancouver or Buffalo. In order to reach a compromise, a numbered spinning wheel was brought in to determine the draft: the Sabres were odd numbers, the Canucks even. When the wheel landed on 11, the Canucks and NHL President Clarence Campbell thought it was II (two) in Roman numerals. However it turned out to be 11 (eleven) in Arabic numerals, leading the Sabres to select first overall future superstar Gilbert Perreault. The Canucks then selected Dale Tallon, a defenceman from the Toronto Marlboros. Tallon then went on to play only 3 seasons with the Canucks before being traded to Chicago whereas Perreault went on to play with the Sabres for the next 17 years amassing at total of 512 goals, 814 assists and 1,326 points and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.

Inexplicably, the Canucks were placed in the East Division, which was not only the tougher division but featured opponents over 2,000 miles away from Vancouver. (The Canucks were nearly a .500 team at home, but could only win seven of 39 road games.) Throughout the first three months of the season, though, the expansion club managed to stay within contention of a playoff spot, until captain Orland Kurtenbach injured his knee in late December. The Canucks would finish their inaugural season with six 20-goal scorers, and Tallon would break Bobby Orr's rookie record for defenseman assists,[3] but 11-30-5 mark to end the season placed them only one point out of last place.

So, IMHO Canucks' "luck" started from the very start of the team joining the NHL back in 1970 and as far as I'm concerned has not improved since that time. Although, with the new faces showing up this past season it appears the team's luck might just be turning in the right direction.

One thing for sure is the Canucks will keep you interested through most of the season. With play just good enough to keep them in the hunt for a play off spot deep into the regular season most years.

Who's Darryl Sittler? he never amounted to anything. Certainly never set any unbreakable NHL records. Nothing to see here... Move along..
