A long weekend in June would be really nice. Something like "hangover day".
I think we should make the major festivals of all belief systems, no matter how obscure, paid National Holidays.
church and state should be seperate.
It is except in countries like Iran and the Vatican which are leaded by religious nutcases.
No nonsense to you all!
To improve Canada?
Here is what we, westerners, have come up with after decades of interrogations and soul searching : do the French a favour and send them all back home to France, where they all emigrated from rather recently, after De Gaulle's famous "Viva la Québec libra".
Canadians have been excessively tolerant toward these hostile immigrants who are trying to regain a country lost by long gone ancestors with whom they are not even directly related.
As for the resident Frogs of the St-Lawrence Valley, let it be clear that they are the bottom of the barrel of an aleady inferior breed, the rejects from the French peasantry of the 17th century, the rejects of the rejects. They are in no position to compete, ever, with the superior WASP.
Generous as we are, we have supported them, monetarily and otherwise, for centuries. The leftover Frogs, that is. Leftover from the seasonal French fur trading posts and their half breed offsprings. Ne'er-do-wells, all of them.
Canadians, continue to be be generous! Keep on feeding those disadvantaged brothers, hand out your welfare to the needy Frogs. In return, they will call you "maudite Anglais" and they will keep on threatening to leave without actually blessing you with an actual departure.
Our swarthy oily skinned low foreheaded long monkey armed Canadians of the St-Lawrence area will surely give you something in return : a VIP pass to a well deserved heaven at the end of your philanthropic days! Well, that's worth a few bucks, ain't it?
PS why haven't we launched a rallying song along the lines of "let's ship'em all back to France" ???
Hrolf,
True Canadian
No nonsense advocate
Thanksgiving isn't a religious holiday. Everyone can take the time to give thanks for what we have here in Canada.
Easter, we could can change to a celebration for the start of spring. Flowers, eggs and bunnies are already a large part of this holiday and represent the start of new life which is what spring brings.
Christmas, we can change to a celebration of winter. It can be a time to celebrate the warmth of our families and friends to help keep the cold of winter away. We can continue to exchange gifts as we need something to do during those long winter nights.
Booting the Libranos=returning sanity to Canada.
I wish to be on record for booting the Libranos as well.
Religion has little to do with Morals & vice-versa. There are PLENTY of religious people who have little or no morals & a handful of DAMN FINE people who would give you the shirt off their back who don't go to church, read bibles or pray. What people in Canada & the US do behind closed doors is their business but would make you shake your head in dismay. Point is that MORALITY needs to be taught in our schools.
As for those so called smarter people who are in positions to make good decisions, THEY DON'T. They are elitist pigs who don't give a crap about the public's interest which is what they take & take tax revenues for & use for their own immoral interests.
However over-commercialized Easter & Christmas are, it's a great thing for kids. Have we forgot what being a kid is like?
I agree with NetAbuser on the Sunday working thing. If someone is going to get their ass out of bed at 5am on Sunday to serve Tim's coffee to a bunch of deer killing rednecks, those self-serving political bastards can work then too OR every last person in Canada should get the day off to be with their imaginitive kids.
