Guess who's paying for Quebec pipedreams?
I had no idea that that much of Quebec's economy was dependent on transfer paments.
If Ontario throws in the towel and goes on welfare that only leaves Alberta struggling to support Quebec and the ROC.
Hang in there Ontario, fat Atlantic unions and Quebec social programs shouldn't be jeopardised by your contemplations of laziness.
This is the problem with socialism. If the rest of Canada were to follow Quebec's lead who would pay the bills?
Oh for the love of. Always the same thing. "Quebec's a sinkhole, they live like French aristocrats from the 17th century with our money, we should cut equalization payments". Yeah right. Then Quebec would simply seccess since it'd have NO SINGLE reason to stay in Canada anymore, and people would be pissed off beyong recognition.
Equalization payments is a necessary evil for Canada. Keep them, even though you're effectively only bribing Quebec to stay in the country, and Canada survives to see another day. Cut them, and well, it's over, the country divides. The money Quebec gets from the fed is the only thing that keeps it inside the country. If they're cut even economists would say we'd better separate, and then it'd be over.
Yes, what I'm saying here is that this country holds together through what you can call bribes. Hell, I'd even say Canada holds together with duct tape. I'm positive it won't exist anymore by 2100, at the latest.
Whatever happens, regionalism within the country can only increase.
Keep the payments, the rich West gets alienated... which in turn alienates the ROC from it... and then that alienates the West more... ultimately the West is bound to just go "screw it".
Cut the payments, it's the end in less than 5 years and Quebec secesses. So by keeping them, we're just pushing the inevitable further.
Doesn't seem like the best way to build a nation. If Quebec would really seperate if forced to pay for its own services, wouldn't an even greater Canada evolve?
GFBP : That is not impossible, which makes me seriously wonder why so many Canadians strive so hard to keep Quebec within the country at all costs. I frequently wonder if it wouldn't be best for both Canada and Quebec to simply move on by themselves, even if that means killing off Canada as we know it...
... yet that's something not a lot of people take time to think about, eh.
RUEZ: Thank you, fuck you too.
We can only hope they take the Atlantic with them when they go.
don't worry GFPB, Ontario has had this on lockdown for a long time now and we're not giving up any time soon.
Fire is actually a Federalist, at least I thought. Well now, I have no clue where he stands.
Edit: And yes, it actually is. The Federal Budget will have a huge impact on the Québec elections. If theres more money for Québec (I'm talking at least 2 billion here), then Charest is expected to capitalise so much, that he will win. If theirs less, he is out the door. And they won't go and vote for the ADQ, that I'm quite positive of.
Well if you want to see transers from the federal government to the provinces.
