You just chasing deer or are you after bear there as well? I got my spring bear this year with my bow. He was just a little guy (about 200 lbs), but the meat was awesome!

ManifestDestiny @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 1:39 pm

I will go for Black Bear. But mostly dear as the black bear are not as abbundant as the whitetail. Love Turkey too full here in NY.

Been to Saskachewan in 2003 for whitetail got a 160 class buck it was great.

I'm originally from Ontario, and talking to my brother who's still there, the turkeys have taken over there! He got his last year with his bow, and he's going to give it another shot this year (if his wife and newborn are OK with it :) )

Same here in NY you could see 50 to 60 at a time here it really blew up in the past ten years.

What breed of bow are you shooting? I've got a Mathews Switchback this spring. Sweetest shooting bow I've ever shot.

One of the few benefits of running a shop :) I've also got a 2005 Hoyt V Tec, but given the choice, I'll take the Mathews anyday.

Here's how my fall looks this year:

whitetail from the house 25 Aug - 30 Sep archery. 01 - 30 Nov rifle
mulie from the house 25 Aug - 30 Sep archery
moose about 20 minutes Southwest of the house 01 Sep - 31 Oct archery
elk 2 hours South near Wainwright (general archery this year!!!) 02 Sep - 31 Oct archery
bear everywhere I go Aug 25 - Nov 30 archery or rifle

ManifestDestiny @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:13 pm

Wow that is awesome. here wher I am in NY I can do bow about 15 minutes from my house. Thats Oct 1st to Dec. 31st. Then I have land about 1 1/2 hours from my house where bow opens oct 1st also and rifle on nov19th to Dec7th or there about. But opening day for rifle is more of a group thing about 15 of us go and hunt for the opening weekend (NY is opening on a saturday this year for the frist time it was alwauys monday) thats more of a social thing my serious hunting is alreay done by then.

Chopper @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:18 pm

15 guys??!!!! Man that's a big group!!! I hunted with my Grandfather's gang in Ontario for several years. Most we had was 10 guys, but we had a lot of land to cover. Some of my best memories came from that deer camp. Of course being the new kid in camp also meant all the shitty jobs were mine.

ManifestDestiny @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:25 pm

Yeah never been less then 10 its great fun. Most of us are married now but before that we used to go out and party too Cause opening day was not till monday it was great we will see what we do this year with opening day on saturday.

Chopper @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:40 pm

We do all our partying during the summer camps. The guys I hunt with now are all pretty serious, and the booze we bring into the hunt camp is minimal. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not opposed to having a snort now and again, and there's nothing better than celebrating with a shot of JD, but we've found that if we bring it, we will drink it. If we don't bring it, we go to bed early, and don't have much trouble getting up 2 hours before daylight

ManifestDestiny @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:42 pm

Thats the problem we are gonna have this year with opening day on Sat. We will see what happens.

Chopper @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 2:45 pm

Well best of luck to you. Shoot straight!
