Photography Homework
Love the owls. Bird watching is the main reason I like to go drool over some of the really long lenses at the camera shop. Wish I could justify the money
Here's a couple very early attempts at trying to do "summer macro" with a camera that I've pretty much only used on fully automatic. I really need to read the instructions or something lol

There's some good stuff just on YouTube, makes it much easier to learn than by reading a manual. The more you practice the faster you learn! I only started a year ago.
Excellent captures for your "very early attempts". Very well done!!!
On your long exposures what kind of ND filter were you using?

Me? For the really long ones I was using two ND's, one a 10 stop, the other a 6, so 16 stops for those LEs. Or do you mean brand?
No, the rating. I bought a ND16, and a ND4(circulars for the Nikon. i have a regular p mount for my Canon SLR at home.... it's a simple Rebel) last month, just haven't had much of a chance to use them due to the shitty weather. I think I may go pick up an infra red one too for shits and giggles..

Would love to see what you can do! Infra red would look cool. I know a photographer in Singapore who does a lot of that.

Nice pics Unsound. I mostly used the "auto adjustment" setting on mine at first but then started playing around with settings. That's the best way I think. Instructions are fine to glance through at home but when out taking pics just play around a bit with settings options, you figure out what works depending on your subject and conditions. Best feature of cameras now... *delete*.
Another one of my flower ones...

Excellent advice. I did that as well. Trial and error, no film to waste!
Beautiful floral portrait Strutz! Is that from your garden?
I was at Butcharts Gardens yesterday and took a lot of photos, of course... here's one with a bumblebee though. Back to the macro summer theme!

No... I don't have a garden unfortunately. Most of my pics of this sort taken in the park just a couple blocks from home...
Your bumblebee is SO much better than the one I posted earlier! Good one.
Weather permitting I might just venture down the street over the next couple days on my days off and see what I can find. In the meantime here's another one from my archives in keeping with the theme.

Having determined that a macro lenses is way out of my price range, I'm considering extension tubes as a lower cost alternative. Anyone have experience with them?

No, but I was looking into them at one point too.
Another beautiful floral photo Strutz!! It was beautiful today in Steveston, were you able to get out and photograph anything?
Here's a photo of a tree frog I found among the foliage at Butchart Gardens.(click on the photo for proper colour and sharpenss - seems to show up badly as an attachment)
